A Little Christmas Spirit is a warm holiday tale where a single mom and her grinchy neighbour find purpose, joy, and unexpected Christmas magic.

Length: 320 pages / ~ 9 hours.
Narrator: Ann Marie Gideon.
Genre: Romance

Summary:
Single mom Lexie Bell is determined to give her six-year-old son Brock a magical first Christmas in their new home, but their grumpy, reclusive neighbour Stanley Mann isn’t exactly spreading holiday cheer. Still grieving the loss of his wife, Stanley has shut himself off from the season—until her ghost appears in his dreams, urging him to let go of his scroogey ways. As Lexie shares warmth and kindness next door, Stanley reluctantly finds himself building snowmen, trimming trees, and slowly rediscovering the joy he thought he’d lost. With a little nudge from a determined Christmas spirit, this holiday is destined to end merrily for them all.
My Thoughts:
Sheila Roberts has always been one of my go-to authors for warm, hopeful holiday stories, and A Little Christmas Spirit is exactly the kind of heartfelt Christmas read I look forward to every year. This one follows single mom Lexie Bell, who’s determined to make her first Christmas in their new home memorable for her six-year-old son, Brock—complete with festive lights, homemade fudge, and all the holiday magic she can manage. What she doesn’t expect is the grumpy widower next door, Stanley Mann, who’s done his best to shut the world—and Christmas—out since losing his beloved wife. When an injury leaves Lexie unable to tackle her holiday to-do list, she’s crushed, but help arrives from the most unlikely place.
Stanley has been stuck in grief for a long time, but when the ghost of his late wife starts nudging (or haunting!) him toward rediscovering the joy he once had, he reluctantly begins to step outside his self-imposed isolation. As he helps Lexie with everything from decorating to snowman-making, he slowly reconnects with the world around him. I especially loved the bond that forms between Stanley and young Brock—it’s tender, healing, and reminded me how powerful intergenerational friendships can be. Watching Stanley revisit memories of his own past, including sweet moments from his marriage, gave the story a deeper emotional resonance. And when a dog enters his life, it’s like a light switching back on, reminding him that purpose and love can return even after profound loss.
The Narration:
I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Ann-Marie Gideon, and she brings so much warmth to the story. Her narration is easy to listen to, and she gives each character a distinct voice without ever pulling attention away from the heart of the book.
Final Thoughts:
A Little Christmas Spirit is a comforting, compassionate holiday read about healing, second chances, and the simple magic of kindness—perfect for curling up with on a snowy evening.
