Summary:
Ruby Dhanji lives for Christmas and all things British, and she’s determined to honour her late mother’s dream by moving to England and opening a cozy inn—but first she needs hotel experience. Enter Rashid, a holiday skeptic whose family owns a boutique hotel chain in the UK. When he helps Ruby haul home a Christmas tree, their paths intertwine: Ruby agrees to bring holiday magic to his young nieces if he’ll connect her with his family. As their unlikely friendship deepens into romance, Ruby discovers Rashid’s hidden warmth beneath his grumpy exterior, but with her move to England fast approaching, she must decide whether to follow her long-held dream or take a chance on unexpected love.
My Thoughts:
I’ve read several books by Canadian author Farah Heron, and once again, she’s delivered a heartwarming and delightful story. A Little Holiday Fling has everything I look for in a festive read—likeable characters with layered backstories, plenty of holiday spirit, and a story that lingers long after the last page. What makes this one stand out even more is how it celebrates the holidays through a multicultural lens, reminding readers that joy, generosity, and love are universal.
Ruby Dhanji is a Toronto woman who adores all things Christmas. For her, the season represents kindness, community, and cherished memories with her late mother. She’s finally on the brink of fulfilling their shared dream—to move to England and open a cozy inn in the countryside. The only catch? She needs hotel experience first. Enter Rashid, a doctor who doesn’t share Ruby’s enthusiasm for the holidays. When he spots her struggling to carry a Christmas tree home from the Winter Market, he can’t resist helping. Their chance meeting soon leads to an arrangement: Ruby will help Rashid give his young nieces the magical Christmas they deserve, and in return, he’ll introduce her to his family, who happen to own a luxury boutique hotel chain in Britain.
As Ruby and Rashid spend time together—decorating, baking, and creating new traditions—their chemistry is undeniable. Beneath Rashid’s gruff exterior lies a man devoted to his family, while Ruby’s strength and determination to live life on her own terms shine through every page. What begins as a practical exchange turns into something tender and real, even as Ruby faces the difficult choice between chasing her dream and following her heart.
I loved how Heron explores how different families celebrate this time of year. The story beautifully captures how non-Christian families embrace the season in ways that feel personal and meaningful. It’s a lovely reminder that the spirit of giving and connection transcends religion.
The Narration:
I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Soneela Nankani, whose performance brought so much warmth and depth to the story. Her lively portrayal of Ruby’s enthusiasm for the holidays, balanced with her quiet determination for the future, made the experience even more special.
Final Thoughts:
If you’re looking for a festive romance filled with heart, family, and a sense of belonging, A Little Holiday Fling is the perfect cozy read for the season.

Great review, Jodie. Multi-cultural, family, set in Toronto and Christmas, what’s not to love. I can’t wait to get to this one.
