Summary:
Jessica Connolly loves her hometown of Blue Moon Bay, where she runs a thriving bakery and is surrounded by family and friends, but her unlucky love life—marked by being the “good luck charm” for her exes’ happily-ever-afters—has convinced her to give up on romance. Meanwhile, globe-trotting Dr. Mitch Jameson is back home for the holidays, eager to leave again once the season ends, until he crosses paths with Jessica, the captivating baker determined to stay single. As they share hot chocolates, holiday traditions, and sweet moments together, they begin to rediscover the magic of Christmas—but the question remains whether their love can last once the festive season fades.
My Thoughts:
I’m a total sucker for a small-town Christmas romance, and A Lot Like Christmas delivered exactly the cozy, heartwarming vibes I was hoping for. Set in the charming coastal town of Blue Moon Bay, the story follows Jessica Connolly, a talented baker who pours her heart into every cake she makes—even the wedding cakes she keeps having to design for her exes, who seem to find their happily-ever-afters with the next woman they date. It’s no wonder Jessica has sworn off love altogether. Enter Dr. Mitch Jameson, who’s returned home for the holidays after years spent travelling the world with Doctors Without Borders. He’s restless, reluctant to be in town, and counting down the days until he can leave again…until he walks into Jessica’s bakery. This book is part of the author’s Blue Moon Bay series but I read it as a standalone and did not feel I was missing out on anything.
What unfolds over the next 25 days is a sweet, slow-building friendship that gently shifts into something deeper. Yes, it’s predictable in that comforting, holiday-movie way—but that’s exactly why I enjoyed it. I loved following their dual perspectives and watching these two guarded people open up to each other as they shared hot chocolates, early-morning visits, and all the festive charm Blue Moon Bay has to offer. Their chemistry felt natural, even when the story dipped into slightly spicier territory, which I found easy enough to skip past when needed.
The Narration:
I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Charlotte Claremont, and thought she did a lovely job. Her warm, easy tone fit the story perfectly. Even though she didn’t alter her voice for Mitch’s chapters, it never felt distracting or lacking.
Final Thoughts:
A Lot Like Christmas is a comforting holiday romance about second chances, new beginnings, and the magic that sometimes finds you exactly when you’ve stopped looking.
