A Merry Little Lie is a warm, emotional Christmas story about family secrets, forgiveness, and the imperfect beauty of coming together for the holidays.

Length: 368 pages / ~11 hours.
Narrator: Henrietta Meire.
Genre: Romance, Holiday

Summary:
The Balfour family’s Christmas is set to be filled with more secrets than presents. Becky dreads the holidays this year, and when she’s stranded at the airport, a tense road trip with her brother’s best friend, Will, becomes even more complicated—especially since he’s the only one who knows her secret. Meanwhile, her twin, Rosie, is struggling to keep up appearances in her troubled marriage to Declan, while Hayley, eager to join the family festivities with Jamie, worries she won’t truly belong—and about how the family will react to the secret she and Jamie share. As hidden truths and mounting tensions threaten to upend their celebrations, the Balfours must decide whether honesty and love can save their Christmas after all.
My Thoughts:
Sarah Morgan has long been an auto-read author for me, and I always look forward to her festive releases. Her 2025 Christmas novel, A Merry Little Lie, explores the ways families protect one another through secrets and silence. While I enjoyed the story, I found I had to focus more than usual to stay engaged—it lacked a bit of the warmth and sparkle that Morgan’s books typically bring.
Told through the perspectives of Jenny, Rosie, Becky, and Hayley, the novel captures how each woman carries her own burden while trying to maintain the illusion of a perfect family Christmas. Though there are romantic elements, this story is more about connection, forgiveness, and the quiet strength of women holding a family together. I especially appreciated Jenny’s storyline as the matriarch doing her best to keep everyone close. At times, the pacing felt slow, but the overall message of hope and reconciliation resonated with me.
The Narration:
Henrietta Meire’s narration brought depth to the story—she skillfully captured the distinct voices of the Balfour women across generations, adding warmth and authenticity to each perspective.
Final Thoughts:
In the end, A Merry Little Lie is a heartfelt reminder that even the strongest families have their secrets, and that love and honesty can mend what feels broken. While not my favourite Sarah Morgan novel, it’s still a comforting read that delivers a gentle dose of Christmas spirit and emotional truth.

Great review, Jodie. I enjoyed this one, but not as much as some of her others. For me it was too much happening in one family.

I agree with you Carla.
