Swept Away is a heartwarming and humorous story about two strangers who wake up stranded at sea after a one-night stand and unexpectedly fall in love while trying to survive.

Length: 9 hours 53 minutes.
Narrator: Connor Swindells, Rebekah Hinds.
Genre: Romance

Summary:
Zeke and Lexi expected their night together to be a fleeting escape, but a miscommunication leaves them adrift on an untethered houseboat, surrounded by endless water. Zeke was only in town to buy back his late father’s boat, while Lexi had no time for romance, focused on helping care for her best friend’s daughter. Now, with limited provisions and no immediate way home, they must work together to navigate their way back—while also confronting an unexpected challenge. Because when you’re stranded at sea with someone, there’s plenty of time to truly get to know them…and maybe even fall in love.
My Thoughts:
If you’re craving a fun escape read with a bit of adventure and a lot of heart, Swept Away is a perfect pick. It’s been a few years since I’ve read anything by Beth O’Leary, but I’m so glad I picked this one up—it’s the kind of story that pulls you in and leaves you smiling.
The premise is delightfully outrageous in the best way: Zeke and Lexi meet for what they expect to be a no-strings-attached one-night stand. Zeke’s only in town to deal with his late father’s houseboat, and Lexi is juggling her own responsibilities, including helping care for her best friend’s daughter. But a simple miscommunication—and a foggy night—means the boat isn’t tied to the dock, and they wake up completely adrift at sea.
What follows is a charming mix of survival and slow-burn romance. Predictably (but satisfyingly), Zeke and Lexi are forced to rely on each other—not just emotionally, but physically—as they face injuries, limited supplies, and the vast, open water. As they work together to stay afloat (literally), their connection deepens in a way neither of them expected.
I really enjoyed how the backstories of both characters were gradually revealed—it added emotional depth to the lighter, more humorous moments. There’s a lovely balance between laugh-out-loud scenes and more tender, vulnerable ones. O’Leary does a great job of showing how unexpected circumstances can crack people open in the best way.
Just when you think you know where the story is going, a twist sends them back to dry land—and in opposite directions. But don’t worry, the ending is as heartwarming as you’d hope.
The Narration:
I listened to the audiobook version, narrated by Connor Swindells and Rebekah Hinds, and I couldn’t have asked for better performances. Both narrators brought warmth and nuance to their characters, handling the romantic tension, comedic moments, and emotional beats with equal skill. Their voices made it even easier to fall in love with Zeke and Lexi’s story.
Final Thoughts:
Swept Away is a charming blend of adventure, humour, and unexpected love. If you’re looking for a feel-good read that takes you out to sea and back again—with a few surprises along the way—this one’s well worth the trip.
