Genre: Romance

Summary:
After a messy breakup and an untimely eviction, Fred Hallow-Hart reluctantly returns to Pine Bluff, where she’s swept back into her family’s quirky Christmas Cracker business and the small-town life she’s never quite fit into. As she throws herself into work, Fred unexpectedly reconnects with her childhood best friend Ryan and also feels a surprising spark with Warren, a charming journalist visiting for the Christmas Market. Caught between new possibilities and old wounds, Fred must confront the truths she’s long avoided before her choices derail the holidays for the people she loves most—and decide whether she’s finally ready to embrace real love and fight for it.
My Thoughts:
I’ll Be Home for Christmas has all the hallmarks of her writing that I’ve come to enjoy: a strong focus on family, the pull of home, and the possibility of romantic love. After a bad breakup and an eviction, Fred Hallow-Hart reluctantly returns to Pine Bluff to live with her mum, Bella, and her delightfully eccentric aunts, who run a Christmas Cracker business that feels perfectly suited to a festive small town. Roped into helping at the shop, Fred tries to lose herself in work, only to find her heart pulled in new directions when she reconnects with her old best friend Ryan and meets Warren, a journalist in town to cover the Christmas Market.
The first part of the book showed a lot of promise. I especially enjoyed getting to know Bella and Fred and learning how they ended up back in Pine Bluff, as well as the quirky, lively aunts who brought warmth and personality to the story. As the novel went on, though, the pacing slowed considerably, and I found myself struggling at times to stay engaged. One of the highlights for me was the evolving relationship between Bella and Fred, which deepened in a way that felt genuine and heartfelt. I was also surprised to learn that Fred was 35, as she came across as much younger in the earlier chapters. The romantic storyline, centred on a love triangle, was where the book lost some of its sparkle for me; the relationships never fully took off and felt somewhat tacked on rather than naturally developed.
The Narration:
I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Hannah Curtis, and really enjoyed her performance. Her warm tone and clear, easy-to-understand accent suited the U.K. setting beautifully and added to the overall experience.
Final Thoughts:
While this wasn’t my favourite of Bayliss’s books, I still appreciated its themes of family and connection, and I would definitely recommend the audiobook format to listeners who enjoy festive, character-driven stories.

This is one that I haven’t read, but not sure if I will. I’m not a fan of love triangles either. Nice review.
