Summary:
Longtime friends Amy, Frankie, Rachael, and Nina reunite for their cherished holiday tradition, only to find themselves on an unexpected adventure when Salvation Army buckets start disappearing around town. Determined to help, they team up with Annie and Myra, whose shipment of toys bound for a New York City charity event has also been stolen. Realizing the crimes are connected, the two groups join forces on a whirlwind chase through the city, vowing to stop the thieves, protect the spirit of giving, and create a Christmas filled with justice, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
My Thoughts:
Fern Michaels returns to her holiday series with another lively adventure featuring Frankie, Amy, Rachael, and Nina—four longtime friends whose seasonal traditions always seem to land them in the middle of something more exciting than decorating a tree. This year, the women discover that Salvation Army donation buckets are being stolen across town, and their instinct to give back quickly turns into a mission to hunt down a real-life Grinch. Their investigation brings them face to face with Annie and Myra of the Sisterhood, whose own shipment of toys bound for a New York City charity event has gone missing. With both thefts clearly connected, the two groups team up for a fast-paced, madcap chase through the city, determined to set things right and save Christmas for the people who need it most.
As a longtime fan of this series, I was delighted to see Michaels bring the original quartet back together. These four first met on a singles cruise, and their antics have been a highlight of my holiday reading ever since. Santa’s Holiday Spectacular stays true to the charm of the earlier books, delivering humour, heart, and the kind of chaos only these women can pull off. Although I recommend reading the books in order, Michaels includes enough callbacks to earlier scenes that new readers won’t feel lost. The descriptions of the meals, table settings, and multicultural touches remain one of the series’ strongest points—you can practically taste the food as you read. Frankie has always been my favourite character, and she continues to shine here. I also appreciated the blend of Thanksgiving and Christmas preparations and the nods to the history of holiday traditions in New York City. It gives the story a genuine festive feel.
The Narration:
I listened to the audiobook, and Susan Bennett’s narration was outstanding. Her range of voices—across multiple women and several men—feels effortless, and her cadence is consistently smooth. The accents added a special touch. She brings warmth, humour, and energy to every scene, making this instalment especially enjoyable.
Final Thoughts:
If you’re looking for a light-hearted holiday adventure with strong friendships, a touch of mystery, and a full dose of Christmas spirit, this is a delightful addition to the season’s reading.

I’m glad you enjoyed this one, Jodie. For me, this series just fell flat, so I didn’t request this one. I’m happy that it hit the mark for you, though.
