My Thoughts:
I always look forward to a new novel from Katherine Center, and The Shippers was no exception. Her stories consistently deliver heartfelt emotion, humour, and wonderfully sharp banter, and this one immediately pulled me in. JoJo Burton has never quite figured out love, and after calling off her carefully planned wedding at the last possible moment—sparked by the unexpected reappearance of her lifelong friend Cooper Watts—she finds herself reassessing everything she thought she wanted. Six weeks later, at her sister’s destination wedding aboard a cruise ship, JoJo becomes determined to finally gain romantic closure by pursuing the neighbourhood boy who gave her her first kiss, enlisting Cooper as her reluctant wingman. Of course, spending time together again brings old feelings to the surface, along with questions neither of them has been brave enough to ask.
The cruise ship setting was an absolute delight and gave the story a vibrant, escapist summer atmosphere filled with wedding festivities, chaos, and laugh-out-loud moments. JoJo and Cooper’s antics had me smiling constantly, and their easy chemistry made every scene engaging. While the romantic outcome felt predictable, the journey there was thoroughly entertaining—full of emotional honesty, humour, and the kind of tender character growth that Katherine Center does so well. Watching JoJo understand why Cooper disappeared to London years earlier added meaningful depth beneath the romantic comedy sparkle.
The Narration:
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Patti Murin, and her performance was fantastic. Her impeccable comedic timing perfectly captured the humour and heart of the story, and she brought JoJo’s voice to life in a way that kept me fully engaged. Honestly, I could listen to her narrate all day.
Final Thoughts:
The Shippers is a charming, feel-good romance packed with wit, warmth, and second chances—exactly the kind of uplifting listening experience I’ve come to expect from one of my favourite authors.
