My Week:
Happy Mother’s Day weekend to everyone celebrating! Once again, I’ll be marking the occasion with our annual Saturday shopping and lunch outing with my mom, sister, and niece. I really treasure these little traditions and the chance to enjoy some girl time with my family.
It’s been another lovely week weather-wise—mostly warm and pleasant, with the occasional late evening or overnight rain shower, which has been just enough to spare us from having to water the garden. The warmer days earlier in the week have given way to cooler temperatures as we head into the weekend.
On Monday, we visited the graves of my grandparents and great-grandparents to place flowers in honour of Mother’s Day. They rest in four different cemeteries scattered across the Greater Vancouver area, so it takes some time—but it’s a tradition my mom has always prioritized, and one I admire deeply. We do our best to create our own bouquets using flowers from our gardens, which I think makes the gesture even more meaningful.
I also received an appointment to see a cardiologist in July. I’m hopeful that it will provide the clarity I need and reassurance that I’m doing everything possible to delay—or even avoid—surgery.
Books I’ve Added to My Shelves This Week:
From Publishers, Netgalley, & Libro.fm: None that I have accepted.
From The Library: None. I’ve declined a few I’ve had on hold to try and get through my already long TBR list first.
From Audible:
Alice never expected Charlie Florek to crash back into her life. Years ago, a single summer at Barry’s Bay with her Nan and a photo of three teenagers in a yellow speedboat changed everything for her. Now a photographer who prefers life behind the lens, Alice returns to the lake when Nan breaks her hip, hoping for another magical summer. But the past comes rushing back when Charlie—once the boy in her photo, now a charming and confident man—roars onto the water in that same yellow boat. As sun-drenched days and late-night conversations draw them closer, Alice finds herself seen in a way she never has before. And that, more than anything, makes her afraid of what comes next.
Years after drifting apart, former best friends Milly Beckett and Nicole Raven reconnect when Nicole, now a global superstar caught in a scandal, turns to Milly for refuge. Milly, fresh from a painful divorce and raising her daughter alone, is reluctant to help—especially since Nicole wasn’t there for her during her darkest times—but ultimately agrees. In the peaceful Lake District, their strained conversations give way to deeper revelations, allowing them to rebuild their bond. As Nicole glimpses a simpler life and Milly considers new love, the secret Nicole has been hiding threatens to unravel their fragile reconciliation. Other People’s Summers is a heartwarming story about friendship, forgiveness, and life’s unexpected turns. This book is also been published as A Secret Escape.
What I’m Watching:
I’m excited to check out The Nonnas, which just premiered on Netflix on May 9. The film follows a man who risks everything to open a restaurant in honour of his late mother—with one unique twist: the kitchen is run entirely by real-life nonnas (grandmothers). It stars Vince Vaughn, Susan Sarandon, and Lorraine Bracco, along with a stellar cast of other well-known actors.

That’s a wrap on The Weekend Post #155. How was your week?Â
I wish you a wonderful week ahead!

Harvee
My mother and my aunts are all buried in Toronto and I’m in Ohio, so I’ll miss laying flowers on their tombstones. Hopefully, other relatives will be doing that, even though it’s not Mother’s Day in Canada this weekend!
May is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month though, so I’ve featured four authors and their most recent books! I am looking forward to reading them all myself!

It is Mother’s Day this weekend here in Canada Harvee.

I love those kinds of family traditions. We used to have some like that, but they’ve fallen to the side over the years. We do still have our family trip on Memorial Weekend for at least one more year. Not sure it will continue after this year. I hope the cardiologist gets you some good news. I have to go have an MRI next month. Doubting it will show anything, and dreading the cost! Hope you have a good week!

Thank you Lisa. I am thankful we don’t have to pay for our tests here in Canada. Have a great week ahead.

I hope you can, indeed, avoid surgery! And, there is something comforting about visiting graves. My mother and I go to my grandmother’s every year, with lily of the valley from my yard, and we read a Psalm together. It is quite lovely.

I just love the format of your blog…very polished and readable. Getting great ideas for looks for mine from you 🙂 Happy Mother’s Day and I hope your visit with the cardiologist is positive news. I see one myself for blood pressure issues and I’ve found them to be so knowledgeable.

It sounds like you had lots of family time (at least with the females in the family) over the weekend. It sounds wonderful. We’ve had a lot of rain here, so whenever it is dry, I have to cut either the front or back lawn. I’m glad you have an appointment with a cardiologist coming up. I hope it is good news, so you can avoid surgery. I am looking forward to both the Carley Fortune and Sarah Morgan books. Have a great week, Jodie.
