My Week:
It’s been a fast-moving week with several appointments and some wild weather swings. We hit 30°C on Wednesday, only to wake up to a much cooler, rainy Thursday morning. The forecast for the coming week shows more of the same variety.
Several provinces have now declared provincewide states of emergency, as wildfires continue to devastate northern regions. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted, and with the firefighters working so hard to contain the blazes.
On a brighter note, good luck to my hometown Vancouver Whitecaps as they face Mexico in the CONCACAF finals this Sunday! They’ve battled hard to get here—go, Whitecaps!
And I’m also cheering on the Edmonton Oilers as they head into the Stanley Cup Finals. Let’s bring the Cup back home to Canada!
Books I’ve Added to My Shelves This Week:
From Publishers, Netgalley, & Libro.fm: None that I have accepted. I have one pending request.
From The Library:

Out of the Clear Blue Sky is a funny and surprising novel about second chances and the lies we tell ourselves. Lillie Silva’s world is turned upside down when her husband abruptly leaves her for another woman just as their son heads off to college. Shocked but not heartbroken, Lillie channels her fury into some rogue antics—like crashing her ex’s wedding dressed as the angel of death—and begins navigating life on her own for the first time. Along the way, she reconnects with her glamorous yet estranged sister, finds an unlikely friend in Ben Hallowell, a man tied to her past, and offers guidance to Ophelia, her ex-husband’s lost and lonely niece. With humour and heart, Lillie discovers that sometimes the most unexpected moments lead to a perfect new chapter.
From Audible:
When Charlotte Sitterly’s husband is arrested for a white-collar crime, she and her daughter Iris are locked out of their house and thrust into the spotlight of @JuniperShoresSocialite, the town’s snarky anonymous Instagram account. Cut off from her bank accounts, Charlotte accepts an offer to stay at a beachfront former B&B turned communal home for single mothers in a small North Carolina town. Despite their difficult circumstances, Charlotte and Iris find unexpected joy and connection with the other families. But when the women uncover a secret link between them, they’re forced to question whether their bond was a coincidence or fate—and whether the truth will strengthen their newfound sisterhood or tear it apart.
Nicola Carr arrives on Block Island seeking a quiet summer, but her plans unravel when she’s drawn into the glamorous world of her mysterious neighbour, Juliana George, a fashion-tech CEO preparing for a major IPO while hoping to reconnect with a man from her past—who happens to have ties to Nicola. Meanwhile, Taylor Buchanan, Nicola’s cousin’s ambitious wife, is determined to protect her powerful real estate empire as her carefully controlled life begins to crumble. As their lives intersect through love, betrayal, and a shocking death, Nicola, Juliana, and Taylor are forced to confront the price of secrets and the true nature of their relationships.
What I’m Watching:
I’m really looking forward to Season 12 of Alone! This year, the survivalists won’t be braving the Arctic, but instead facing the harsh conditions of the Great Karoo Desert in South Africa. It premieres in Canada on June 12 on the History Channel.
Any other fans of the show out there?

Lisa Mandina (Lisa Loves Literature)
They’ve been talking about the smoke from the fires on the news down where I live in middle America, but mostly it’s high up in the atmosphere where I am, so hasn’t affected our air quality too much yet. Our hockey team, the KC Mavericks, were doing really well, then last weekend they lost to the same team that knocked them out last year I think. But it was exciting for a while! Hope you have a good week!

Thanks Lisa.

Anne - Books of My Heart
You books look like what I call life fiction. They have realistic and emotional themes, often they are inspiring. I’m sorry about the wildfires. I’ve been enjoy little spots of rain several days a week keeping the temperatures down here.
