My Week:
Happy Summer, everyone! It’s been a quiet week here—thankfully—as I’ve been dealing with some headaches and fatigue. Every now and then, I get spells like this, which usually start with a canker sore that sends nerve impulses through my face, head, and ears. I’m taking it easy for now, as my energy is pretty low, but I’m hopeful it will pass in a few days, as it usually does.
The weather here has been on the cooler side, with periods of rain expected over much of the weekend as we ease into the new season.
On the audiobook front, I’ve fully switched to listening only to audiobooks for the time being and have been enjoying some fantastic ones lately. After a recent price change with Amazon Music, I switched back to a regular Audible subscription—it just works out better for me. While I do like Libro.fm, the pricing isn’t quite as competitive here in Canada compared to Audible. I use a credit when a book I want to read isn’t available at my local library or Netgalley.
Books I’ve Added to My Shelves This Week:
From Publishers, Netgalley, & Libro.fm:

Veterinarian Evie Williams appears to have a picture-perfect—if dull—life, until she catches her fiancé cheating and finds herself suddenly single and unemployed. Unsure of her next move, things take an unexpected turn when her old college crush, Bryson Mitchell—now a renowned veterinary surgeon—returns to town. Reunited through their shared passion for animals, Evie and Bryson team up to save the local shelter where they once volunteered, and as they rekindle their friendship, sparks begin to fly. The question is, can they turn their second chance into something more? Publishes July 15 by Hachette Audio.

After her publishing career and engagement collapse in Boston, Leah Powell returns to her quiet Cape Cod hometown feeling lost and discouraged. There, she discovers a neglected historic sea captain’s house and is inspired to renovate it into a bookstore and café called The Sandy Page. Local contractor Luke Nicholson, who remembers Leah though she doesn’t recall him, offers to help restore the house, and together they create a warm gathering place for locals and visitors alike during a long summer of second chances. As the community embraces The Sandy Page, Leah and Luke must decide if this fresh start is enough to heal their own hearts. Publishes July 22 by Brilliance Publishing.

What I’m Watching:
Season 27 of Big Brother premieres July 10 on CBS and Global TV, and once again, I’m looking forward to tuning in! It’s one of those shows I really enjoy each summer while my regular series are on hiatus. As always, it will be hosted by Julie Chen Moonves.

The Weekend Post #162
That’s a wrap on The Weekend Post #161. How was your week?Â
I wish you a wonderful week ahead!

Trish
Sorry to hear about the headaches and hope you can get some relief soon. I had a rare week with no evening plans and it was so nice!
thathappyreader
Thank goodness for downtime Trish!
Harvee
Headaches abound this hot and polluted season here. Stahying cool and hydrated is a good idea, plus soothing music! Feel better soon!
thathappyreader
Thank you Harvee.
Tina
Hope you are feeling better soon. Headaches are terrible, sometimes sitting in a low lighted room, helps after I take a Advil.
thathappyreader
Unfortunately I cannot take Advil or other NSAIDs.
Jonetta | Blue Mood Café
Sorry you’ve been under the weather and hope that improves. I’ve got both a Libro.fm and Audible subscription. I use Audible for their exclusive books and the 2-for-1 credit sales. Everything else is on Libro.fm.
Have a great week, Jodie💜
thathappyreader
Thanks Jonetta.
Val
Puppy books! I love books with dogs in them (unless the dog dies). I really hope you enjoy them.
thathappyreader
Thanks Val!
Cindy's Book Corner
I hope taking it easy eases your symptoms. I think summer has finally sprung here, we have our first heat advisory tomorrow. I am hoping to get out in the sun anyway, it is much needed.
thathappyreader
Enjoy the sun Cindy.
mae
Feel better soon!
thathappyreader
Thanks Mae.
Patricia in New Mexico
I feel your pain! I hope you get better soon. Feel free to send some rain my way in Southern New Mexico! I do love books about bookshops, readers and such! Will check out McKinnon’s book! Thank you for sharing!
thathappyreader
Thank you Patricia.
Erin @ Cracker Crumb Life
Oh no. I hope you are feeling better now! Enjoy your cooler weather and reads! Pugs and Kisses looks adorable.
thathappyreader
Thank you Erin.
Lisa Mandina (Lisa Loves Literature)
Pugs and Kisses looks cute! I think it has a different cover in the US maybe? I’m trying to make myself only get books on Audible that I can’t get at the library. Otherwise it seems like a waste of money for me. They are offering some deal to subscribe for a year to save a bunch of money, but it’s also a big amount all at once and I don’t think I should spend that. Plus I tend to put my subscription on hold around the holiday every year since they let you do that once a year, or they did. I hope you are feeling better now. We’ve had the hot weather here the past week. I am not a fan of that.
thathappyreader
This is the only cover so far Lisa. Stay cool!
Anne - Books of My Heart
I hope you feel better very soon. My daughter is doing well with headaches this year compared to daily migraines last year. She’s still working on the ear / TMJ thing though. Enjoy that cooler weather, it will be hot almost everywhere this week

So very sorry to hear about the headaches – it’s so very draining when that happens. I hope the coming week sees an improvement in your pain.

Thank you Sarah.
Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog
Oooh! Big Brother looks like an interesting show! Hope you have a great week!
thathappyreader
You too Ronyell.
Deb Nance at Readerbuzz
I hope your spell of ill health passes quickly.
My son was telling me that he can listen to most any book through his Spotify subscription. I need to look into that.
thathappyreader
I will look again Deb. Amazon music connects to Audible here in Canada who has the most extensive library I’ve seen. I subscribed earlier this year when the price was $8.99 but it has since gone up to close to Audible Canada’s rate. Libro.fm is much more for me because it’s $18.99 USD. I can get 2 Audible credits for that much.
Marg @ The Intrepid Reader
Hope your headaches clear up soon!

Have a great week!
thathappyreader
Thank you Marg.
Her Digital Coffee
I hope you’re feeling better, Jodie! I love the books that you’ve added to your list and I’m looking forward to those reviews. I’m also super excited for Big Brother. It’s a shame they cancelled BB Canada, I miss getting the chance to enjoy both each year. Have a great week Jodie!

You too Winnie.
