My Week:
It’s been a hot and sunny week, but temperatures are finally dipping to a more comfortable level just in time for the Canadian Provincial Day holiday weekend. This week included a dentist appointment (hooray for clean teeth and no issues!) and a relaxing pedicure. I also accompanied Dad to a medical appointment and helped out with my parents whenever I could throughout the week. I hope you had a great week too!
Books I’ve Added to My Shelves This Week:
From Publishers, Netgalley, & Libro.fm: I have one audiobook still pending.
Jill Jacobs has never been a Christmas person—not since her heart was broken on Christmas Day three years ago by her hometown love. Now a screenwriter living in L.A., she returns reluctantly to suburban Illinois for the holidays, only to wake up in what appears to be a real-life Heartfelt holiday movie. Her town is suddenly transformed into a festive wonderland filled with peppermint scents, cheerful neighbours, and familiar faces—including her ex, now flannel-clad and infuriatingly attractive, and her high school crush, who owns a bakery and embodies Christmas spirit. To escape this cinematic snow globe, Jill must follow the plot, which includes a holiday bake-off and a sugary-sweet romance—not necessarily with the one she wants—as her ex looks on. Fa la la la freaking la, indeed. Thanks to Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for the ARC of this audiobook.
In Someday, Now, Tembi Locke reflects on a transformative summer in Sicily as she navigates the emotional transition of her only daughter leaving for college. A lifelong seeker of connection and belonging—shaped by experiences as a child of divorce, adoptive mother, widow, and now wife in a blended family—Tembi finds herself drawn to the sea and the memories of her late husband’s homeland. Through personal reflection, mythological inspiration, and rich recordings from her travels, she explores grief, motherhood, and midlife reinvention while embracing the complexities of love, change, and blended family. This heartfelt audio memoir offers a companionable and evocative journey, perfect for fans of From Scratch. Thank you to Simon & Schuster Audio and Libro.fm for the ALC of this audiobook.
From The Library:Â None
From Audible: None. I have two books on my shelf ready to listen to.
What I’m Watching:
This week we discovered the Netflix show Building the Band and are really enjoying it. It’s a unique reality singing competition where talented vocalists are given the chance to form their ideal bands. Unlike other singing shows I’ve seen, this one focuses on collaboration as much as performance. It’s hosted by A.J. McLean and also features Nicole Scherzinger.

Enjoy the holiday weekend. I must wish my Toronto relatives a happy weekend holiday too.

Good for you Harvee! I’m not a fan of dubbing or subtitles so only English for me.

Deb Nance at Readerbuzz
We’ve been suffering through some hot weather, too. It cooled off yesterday a bit—so yay!
I’m intrigued by Christmas People. I think I’ll see if our library has that one yet.

I hope it does Deb!
Lisa Mandina (Lisa Loves Literature)
Christmas People looks good! We had the heat in the beginning of the week, then some fake fall towards the end and right now which I’m enjoying. I get being there for your parents. I try to spend as much time with my mom since we lost my stepdad a year ago. I know it’s weird for her to be alone after almost 50 years with him. I hope you have a good week!

You too Lisa.
Anne - Books of My Heart
That’s a good week. Our temperatures are cooler this week, almost for a week. But next weekend it’s back to the oven. We are mostly busy with physical therapy and have finished most other appointments. Enjoy your holiday!

Building the Band sounds intriguing! I like singing/reality shows. It sounds like a pretty good week overall, yay! Let them continue. I hope you enjoy the books you added to your shelves this week.

Thanks Cindy. I inadvertently saw the winner when I was googling about the show so I’d advise not doing that!
Marg @ The Intrepid Reader
It seems early for Christmas titles, but I know that I have one on my TBR for next week too!
Have a great week!
thathappyreader
I won’t be reading it until shortly before pub day Marg. Most Christmas titles publish in September and October.

Glad it isn’t too unbearably hot for you. And that you had a clean bill of health at the dentist! Christmas People looks like fun – I hope you enjoy it, Jodie:).

Thank you Sarah.
Carla@CarlaLovesToRead
I always enjoy getting a pedicure. In fact, after VBS is over next week, I’m booking a haircut and pedicure on the same day. I will be needing a pampering. I’m glad your weather is cooling down, Jodie. It has been a hot summer. It’s nice to see a show that highlights collaboration instead of always competition. I hope next week is lovely for you.
thathappyreader
Thank you Carla. I hope your week is lovely as well.
