My Week:
What can I say, dear readers? When it rains, it truly pours. This past week has been heavy—we’ve been busy making preparations for my dad’s burial and memorial service, all while helping my mom through the challenges of her broken back, both physically and emotionally. Amidst it all, my husband and I marked our 36th wedding anniversary, and we treated ourselves to a quiet lunch out. On the way home, though, a semi-truck rear-ended our SUV. Thankfully, we weren’t seriously hurt, but the accident has only deepened the weight of everything we’re carrying right now. If someone offered me the chance to fast-forward through the next month, I’d take it in a heartbeat.
I know my weekend posts have felt like one wave of doom and gloom after another, and for that, I apologize. Please know that I do see the blessings in my life, and I’m doing my best to keep my focus on them, even in the midst of loss.
Books I’ve Added to My Shelves This Week:
From Publishers, Netgalley, & Libro.fm: None
From The Library:

Lauryn Harper’s carefully constructed five-year plan unravels after a workplace mishap lands her in the Ryser Charity Department—unfortunately located in her hometown, the very place her powerful corporation devastated and she once fled. Determined to impress her boss and return to city life, Lauryn is horrified to face old ghosts, especially her estranged best friend, who insists the department fund and revive the town’s beloved Greenstead Fall Festival. Agreeing in hopes of a quick escape, Lauryn instead finds herself caught up in small-town chaos, community spirit, and an unexpected second chance at friendship and belonging—forcing her to reconsider whether home is something worth running from after all.
From Audible:

High school English teacher June Flint is accidentally hurled 85 years into the future, far from her dream job, her ailing mother, and even her beloved Sunday night pizza. When her cell phone mysteriously connects back to the present—though only to her workplace nemesis, gym teacher Mikey Shannon—future June enlists his help to befriend present-day June and prevent her from vanishing altogether. The catch? Present-day June can’t stand Mikey, while Mikey finds himself reluctantly devoting time to both versions of her, from volunteering at school to braving roller coasters and even adopting a puppy. But as future June and Mikey grow closer, they must face the biggest question of all: if they succeed in fixing the past, what happens to the future—and to the unexpected love blossoming between them?
What I’m Watching:
I’m really looking forward to season two of Brilliant Minds, premiering September 22. The show follows an eccentric yet brilliantly gifted neurologist who uses unconventional methods to diagnose and treat some of the most puzzling neurological conditions. It is shown on NBC in the U.S. and Citytv in Canada. You can watch a preview of the show Here.

I’m so sorry about the loss of your dad and your mom’s broken back. And then to be rear-ended…this is all too much. If I had a way of fast-forwarding you through all the difficult days, I would do this for you.

That is definitely too much at one time, Jodie. Although we can’t fast-forward the next month, I suspect it’s a healthy mindset to know that things are likely to be improved, a bit, a month from now.

Nothing is given but I certainly hope so Joy.

Oh my gosh! How scary with that accident! I’m so glad you’re okay! You are correct in the when it rains it pours. And unfortunately it seems like it is only doing that for the bad things, and rarely for the good things. I’ll keep you guys in my thoughts this week. So much for your family to be handling. At least you did get a moment to celebrate the happy event of the anniversary. Hoping for a better week for you!

Anne - Books of My Heart
I’m sorry you have so much to handle. It does feel like it hits you when you are already down. I recall a time last year when I couldn’t seem to go a week without something breaking and needing to be repaired. (which is much simpler than your issues). Happy anniversary and take care of you and the time you need to feel better.
