My Week:
I’ve been a bit under the weather this week, so I’ve tried to lay low whenever possible. Influenza rates are higher than usual for this time of year, and several members of my extended family have been sick as well. My mom has been feeling particularly unwell, and I’m praying she recovers soon.
The weather has been its typical November self here in Vancouver—on-and-off rain throughout the week. I’m grateful we haven’t had the heavy snow that many parts of Canada and the U.S. have seen. Driving in the rain is definitely easier than dealing with snow, at least around here. Stay safe everyone!
Books I’ve Added to My Shelves Recently:
From Publishers, Netgalley, & Libro.fm: I’ll be sharing some in a future post.
From The Library:

After leaving her service with Charlotte and Thomas Pitt to marry, Gracie never expected to return to life as a maid—but when her late friend’s daughter, Millie, arrives in a panic just before Christmas, fearing she’ll be accused of theft after items go missing in her employer’s kitchen, Gracie steps in to help. Posing as Millie, she takes over the position to uncover the truth, only to discover that the elderly grandmother confined upstairs is being cruelly neglected by the household, whose owners seem disturbingly impatient for her death.

On the night of their high school graduation, Richelle Bach and her twin sister Michelle receive identical opal necklaces from their father, symbolizing their shared bond despite their differences. As the years pass, the sisters grow apart, and a painful rift at Christmas leaves Richelle vowing never to see Michelle again. When their father later asks Richelle to forgive her twin, she cannot keep the promise before Michelle tragically dies in an accident. Grieving and isolated, Richelle pours herself into her work as a PICU nurse while nurturing a dream of writing a novel, The Prodigal Daughter, inspired by her sister’s life. But when she meets Justin Ek, a man carrying his own grief, Richelle uncovers a secret promise and realizes that the story she is writing is not truly about Michelle—it’s about herself.

What I’m Watching:
I’m looking forward to watching “Man On The Inside” season 2 starring Ted Danson beginning November 20 on Netflix. Is anyone else a fan of the show?

I love his books Vicki. I have two on my TBR this holiday season.
Deb Nance at Readerbuzz
The weather here has been dry and hot for the last three months, and that’s not usual. Typically we get a lot of rain this time of year, and it usually cools off a bit.
I hope you enjoy A Christmas Legacy.
thathappyreader
Thanks Deb. I hope it cools down for you.
Lisa Mandina (Lisa Loves Literature)
I’ve been dealing with a really bad muscle sprain or something in my neck the last few days. I’ve not seen that show with Ted Danson, not sure it is my regular type of show. I think my mom would like it and I’ve suggested it to her though. Hope you have a good week!
thathappyreader
I hope you feel better soon Lisa.
Melissa
I hope you and your mom get to feeling better soon! There are so many sicknesses racing around. Hydrate and rest up 🙂
I have been thinking about a book to read at Christmas time so thank you for offering up these two options.
thathappyreader
Thanks Melissa.
Sarah
I’m sorry you’re poorly and hope you soon recover. I know there’s a lot of illness around this winter. And I hope your mother also soon feels a lot better. I’m with you – rain every time. Snow should be kept just for Christmas cards in my opinion. I like the look of The Christmas Legacy – I hope the coming week is a better one, Jodie.
thathappyreader
Thank you Sarah.
Anne - Books of My Heart
I LOVE the Anne Perry Christmas novellas. They are little character studies of side characters in her series. Our weather has been comfortable except for a 2 day frozen spell. I hope you feel better soon. We are being very careful as I have heard about the severe flu strains this year.
Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post

I hear you about limiting time in crowded places Anne. In fact I masked up again when I had to accompany my mom to the ER this weekend.

I’m sorry your family has been hit by the flu, Jody. I hope everyone is on the mend by now. I’ve been lucky with the weather since I got home. No snow yet, but we have had rain off and on.

Thank you. Luckily no influenza Carla.
