While We Were Dating by Jasmine Guillory

If you’re a fan of romantic comedies I highly recommend my latest read. While We Were Dating is Jasmine Guillory’s sixth book in The Wedding Date series but can certainly be read as a standalone.

Plot Summary

Anna Gardiner is an Oscar-nominated actress concentrating on building her career.  Ben Stephens is in the advertising industry and no longer one for serious relationships.  When Ben is put in charge of an ad campaign featuring Anna, neither of them are ready for the immediate attraction between them.  Some flirtatious bantering leads to Ben assisting Anna in a family emergency as the two really get to know one another.  When an opportunity comes his way, Ben agrees to play the part of Anna’s boyfriend for a couple of weeks.  Will it be easy for Anna and Ben to walk away from this relationship at the end of their “dating” period?

Book Review

I love the author’s writing style and the easy flow of her storylines.  She features strong female protagonists and charming, good-willed male characters.  Her culture and personality come shining through her books and I absolutely appreciate this.

While We Were Dating is a fun read full of the witty banter I love about this genre. The book also has a more serious side – the central characters have issues with anxiety and are both seeing therapists.  I appreciate the discussion in the book about mental health which helps to normalize this aspect of health. The importance of family is a central theme in each book in this series and is another reason what makes this author’s work so attractive.

Audiobook Review

I listened to the audiobook version of While We Were Dating which was narrated by Janina Edwards who gives another wonderful performance.   She has an authentic, effervescent quality to her voice which makes it a pleasure to listen to.  I would absolutely recommend the audiobook version of the book to those that appreciate this format.

What I Liked:

• The fun, witty banter between Anna and Ben
• The inclusion of the authors culture and personality in the book
• The discussion of characters having anxiety and actively in therapy.

Those readers who enjoy romantic comedies with strong female protagonists.
