It’s time for Who Wears it Better in June 2025? In this feature, I look at different book covers used for the same book. In some cases, the cover is chosen by geography (e.g. North America or UK). Other times, it’s based on the edition of the book (hardcover, paperback, kindle etc). Where it becomes confusing is when the book is given a completely different title! Just for fun, and because I love talking books, let’s see what different books covers I’ve noticed recently.
➡️ I’ve added voting buttons to each of the five challenges, so please cast your votes for all of them and I’ll do the same. I will share the final results in next month’s post. But first, let’s review the results of last month’s battles!

Our June Battles: (Polls close June 30)
The Eights by Joanna Miller:

Our first battle this month is for a book with two very different covers from two different publishers. I haven’t read this book but given that the G.P. Putnam’s Sons cover shows a rowing team of eight I would think that the book is about this team. Reading the synopsis does not support this – in fact the book is about four women. Therefore my choice is the Penguin cover for the aesthetic of it.
We Are All Guilty Here by Karin Slaughter:

This battle features two different covers from different publishers. Each features a girl riding a bike at what appears to be sunset. Besides the colours and font chosen for each of these covers, the biggest difference between the two is that the HarperCollins cover has the tagline “No one is innocent” which makes me want to read this book a little more. My choice is therefore the HarperCollins cover.
Julie Chan Is Dead by Liann Zhang:

Once again we feature a battle between two different covers from publishers representing different regions. The Atria cover features a woman with dark hair looking through her phone camera in a sea of women with blonde hair looking down at their phones. The Raven Books cover shows a woman’s arm and gives a tag line that has me intrigued. There also appears to be blood spattered on the cover. In my opinion, neither cover is beautiful but both have me intrigued. My choice is the Raven Books cover – I’m a sucker for a good tag line.
Great Black Hope by Rob Franklin:

This battle features two different covers representing two different regions. The U.S. cover shows a New York City background while the U.K. cover shows both a New York City background and a man’s lower part of his face. This one is an easy choice for me with the U.K. cover being my choice as it provides more insight into the story.
Sleep by Honor Jones:

Our last battle this month features two different covers from publishers representing different regions – Riverhead Books from the U.S. and Fourth Estate from the U.K. The Riverhead Books cover has a woman underwater. The Fourth Estate cover has a woman who appears to be treading water. Neither cover particularly called to me until I read the synopsis. The Fourth Estate cover shows a young girl who appears to be on guard. The addition of the one sentence quote from Ann Patchett is fitting. For these reasons my choice is the Fourth Estate cover.

ER LeVar
Well, it seems like my opinion is the unpopular one (for now). I liked the less-popular cover for almost all of these. Guess I’ll have to stop by next month to see how it all plays out!
