Summary:
When career-focused single woman Sage Madison agrees to care for her five-year-old nephew, Ricky, she sets out to give him a memorable Christmas despite her own preference for premade cookies and artificial trees. With help from her friend Erica and colleague Ethan, who agrees to dress as Santa, Sage embraces the holiday spirit through festive adventures filled with ice skating, baking, and unexpected laughter. As Ethan’s kindness and growing bond with Ricky bring new joy into Sage’s life, an unexpected romance begins to blossom, prompting her to reconsider what truly matters. But when her old life threatens to disrupt their newfound happiness, Sage must decide whether she is ready to embrace the magic of Christmas and the possibility of love.
My Thoughts:
Christmas wouldn’t be the same without a new Debbie Macomber book, and A Date With Santa is one of my favourites! It’s a heartwarming holiday story about a woman who learns what’s truly important in life from her five-year-old nephew.
Sage Madison has mastered the art of taking shortcuts in her day-to-day life. She frequently orders in, has her Christmas tree delivered already decorated, and even stores her shoes in her never-used oven! When she agrees to look after her nephew, Ricky, while his mother, Saffron, assists with disaster relief, Sage thinks she’s prepared for everything a little boy could want. What she soon discovers is that Saffron has done a wonderful job of teaching Ricky that homemade is always better. The result is a highly entertaining holiday story filled with plenty of Christmas spirit.
I loved watching the relationship develop between Sage and Ricky, who haven’t had many opportunities to spend time together since they live on opposite ends of the country. Ricky’s confidence and charming personality are absolutely heartwarming, and it’s easy to understand why everyone wants to make his Christmas as special as possible.
Sage enlists the help of her friends and co-workers to create a memorable Christmas for Ricky, especially since his mother may not be able to spend the holiday with him. This includes Ethan, a co-worker who is also competing with Sage for the same promotion. Ricky quickly decides that Sage and Ethan belong together, and as the two adults spend more time getting to know each other, it becomes clear that he might be on to something! While the romance is predictable, I enjoyed every minute of this lovely Christmas story.
The Narration:
The audiobook, narrated by Thérèse Plummer, is another highlight. She once again delivers an excellent performance, effortlessly switching between the different characters’ voices, including Ricky’s, with just the right amount of enthusiasm. I highly recommend choosing the audiobook format.
Final Thoughts:
If you’re looking for a charming, feel-good Christmas romance with a heartwarming message about family, love, and the simple pleasures of the season, A Date With Santa is a wonderful choice!
