Summary:
Greta Perks, once the beloved face of Maple Gold coffee commercials, now finds her fame fading, her marriage crumbling, and her teenage daughter drifting away. When she discovers the magical Time Hop Coffee Shop and wishes for the idyllic life she once portrayed on TV, she awakens in the flawless town of Mapleville, where sunshine, fresh coffee, and second chances seem endless. As Greta steps into this picture-perfect world and embraces the chance to rewrite her story, she begins to question whether perfection is truly worth the cost—and ultimately must decide between the dream life she wished for and the imperfect but authentic life she left behind.
My Thoughts:
The Time Hop Coffee Shop is another heartfelt and imaginative read from an author I’ve come to rely on, and she truly doesn’t disappoint. The story follows Greta Perks, once the bright and bubbly face of Maple Gold coffee commercials, whose real life is now anything but picture-perfect. With her acting career fading, her marriage falling apart, and her daughter pulling away, Greta is standing at a crossroads—one of those big life transitions that can shake everything loose. When she stumbles into a mysterious little café and sips a brew like no other, she unexpectedly wakes up in Mapleville, the sun-soaked, flawless world straight out of her old commercials. It’s a place where the coffee is always fresh, the days don’t seem to turn sour, and Greta is offered the dream life she once only pretended to live. But as she steps deeper into this fantasy world, she starts to question whether perfection is truly worth trading in her real, messy, complicated life.
I absolutely love books that explore these turning-point moments in a woman’s life—stories where we get to walk alongside a character as she makes choices that reveal who she truly wants to become. Greta’s journey into the Time Hop Coffee Shop has this fun, almost Alice in Wonderland quality to it, especially in how unexpectedly she tumbles from her everyday world into one that feels too good to be true. The temptation she faces is so relatable: who hasn’t wished, even briefly, to escape into a simpler, shinier version of life? Mapleville is painted so vividly that I caught myself imagining how nice it might be to wander there for a day or two, especially given how chaotic life can feel lately. But what really makes this story special is how Greta’s time in that perfect world ripples back into her real life, prompting her to rediscover her strength, her dreams, and what really matters.
The Narration:
I listened to this one on audio, and Nicola Barber was an absolutely perfect narrator for Greta. She delivered the story with just the right mix of warmth, vulnerability, and emotional nuance. At times I forgot I was listening to an actor—it truly felt like Greta herself was sharing her joys, frustrations, and revelations with me. Her narration elevated the whole experience and made the emotional beats land even more deeply.
Final Thoughts:
If you enjoy heartfelt stories with a touch of magic, meaningful character growth, and a cozy escape from the everyday, The Time Hop Coffee Shop is a lovely choice.

I have had my eye on this book for a while. I am not a fan of time travel and the name suggested it would maybe involve something like that.. but from your summary it seems it’s more alternate reality than time travel. Good to hear you liked it.
