Summary:
Izzy’s life is on the verge of major change as she wrestles with whether to give her ex, Rick Savage, another chance now that he seems committed to becoming a better man, or allow herself to move forward and possibly explore deeper feelings for a longtime friend. While she sorts through her emotions, she’s adjusting to new responsibilities that shift her focus beyond herself, all while living with her supportive sister Mia, whose own budding romance adds to the swirl of change. Meanwhile, the Hodges family faces upheavals of their own as Kate prepares to share a big announcement and Lisa discovers she’s broken an important rule at her bed and breakfast, making it clear that transformation is on the horizon for everyone.
My Thoughts:
I always love returning to familiar fictional communities, and Nantucket Threads felt like catching up with old friends. This is the sixth book in the author’s Nantucket Beach Plum Cove series and I don’t recommend reading this as a standalone.
This instalment centres on Izzy as she navigates pregnancy, complicated emotions, and the lingering question of whether her ex, Rick, truly deserves another chance. His efforts to change are genuine, which makes her decision feel authentic rather than predictable, and I appreciated how the story lets her wrestle with that uncertainty instead of rushing her toward an easy answer.
Beyond Izzy’s journey, there’s plenty happening in the wider circle of characters. Lisa, the inn’s owner, faces disappointing news that forces her to rethink her plans, and a new long-term guest subtly ripples through several storylines. Kate’s life-altering announcement adds another layer of anticipation, while Mia’s budding romance balances the heavier moments with warmth and hope. Kelley continues to excel at weaving multiple lives together so that each thread feels connected without losing its individuality.
What keeps me coming back to this series is the atmosphere. No matter the season, there’s a breezy coastal charm that makes every chapter feel like a mini escape. I will note a gentle content heads-up for readers sensitive to pregnancy themes, as there is a threatened loss storyline. There were also a few small details that felt a bit unrealistic to me — for instance, a doctor revealing a baby’s gender without first asking — but they were minor enough that they didn’t pull me out of the story for long.
The Narration:
I listened to the audiobook edition and really enjoyed the Leslie Howard’s lovely tone and cadence, which suited the gentle, community-driven feel of the novel.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, this was a comforting, character-focused read that reminded me why I enjoy spending time in this world so much.
