Spectacular Things is a moving story about sisters Mia and Cricket, who navigate the deep bonds of love, loyalty, and sacrifice as they chase their dreams and confront the weight of family expectations. Growing up in a small Maine town as the gifted daughters of a single mother with a hidden past, Mia takes on the role of caregiver while Cricket pursues soccer stardom at any cost. As they mature, both are forced to question how much they’re willing to give up—for each other, for love, and for the futures they envision—revealing the delicate balance between ambition and the ties that bind.
Good Morning America’s Book Club’s pick:
The GMA Book Club is officially called “Cover to Cover” and was started in the Fall of 2019. Their selections highlight diversity and books are chosen from both fiction and non-fiction genres. The book club chose “The Compound” by Aisling Rawle as their July 2025 pick.

Length: 304 pages/10 hours.
Narrator: Lucy Boynton.
Genre: Dystopian
Summary:
In this gripping dystopian debut, ten young, beautiful women awaken in a remote desert compound, desperate to escape the chaos of a crumbling world—only to find themselves contestants in a high-stakes reality TV show watched by millions. With cameras tracking their every move and ten male contestants set to arrive—if they survive the journey—the women must confront the chilling question: what must they do to win, and what becomes of those who lose? Blending the savage intensity of Lord of the Flies with the seductive drama of Love Island, this addictive novel is a razor-sharp satire on consumerism, survival, and the price of spectacle.
