Summary:
Maisy Gallaher once dreamed of becoming a nurse but put her ambitions aside after her father’s death to support her family, quietly wondering about the life she sacrificed. Chase Furst, a guarded bank executive and heir to a financial empire, has grown emotionally distant after a difficult childhood shaped by his mother’s addiction. When their paths cross, Maisy’s warmth and selflessness unsettle Chase—especially when she refuses his offer of payment for her help and instead challenges him to “pay it forward” through genuine kindness. Determined to prove he can, Chase begins to change, and as their lives intertwine, both discover that compassion, vulnerability, and love might heal more than they ever expected.
My Thoughts:
Chasing the Clouds Away is exactly the kind of warm, uplifting story I’ve come to expect from an author who remains an automatic read for me. At its heart, this novel explores how one person’s kindness and deeply held values can ripple outward and quietly change the lives of everyone around them.
Maisy Gallaher once dreamed of becoming a nurse, but after her father’s death she set aside her own ambitions to support her struggling family business. Her optimism, generosity, and belief in doing good for others define her character from the very first page. When she crosses paths with Chase Furst—a successful but emotionally guarded bank executive shaped by a difficult childhood—the contrast between them is immediate. Chase is practical and guarded; Maisy is pure sunshine. After Maisy helps him during an unexpected moment of need, she refuses payment and instead challenges him to pay it forward through an act of true selflessness. What follows is a touching journey as Chase slowly discovers how acts of kindness can transform not only others, but himself as well.
I especially loved the pay-it-forward concept woven throughout the story. Watching Chase take on Maisy’s challenge and struggle to understand why helping others feels so meaningful was incredibly satisfying. The romance between grumpy Chase and sunshine Maisy unfolds as a gentle slow burn, and despite their very different backgrounds, their growing connection feels sincere and earned. The novel highlights the importance of family, compassion, and community—messages that felt particularly comforting during these unsettling times in the world. It’s a true feel-good read that reminds us how generosity and empathy can make life brighter for everyone.
The Narration:
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Thérèse Plummer, one of my longtime favourite narrators. Her performance is outstanding, bringing believable voices to characters of different ages and genders with ease. She captures both Maisy’s warmth and Chase’s emotional guardedness beautifully, making her the perfect match for Macomber’s storytelling style.
Final Thoughts:
Chasing the Clouds Away is a heartfelt, hopeful novel about love, second chances, and the powerful impact of simple kindness. If you’re looking for a comforting romance filled with optimism and emotional warmth, this one absolutely delivers.
