Summary:
Still grieving the loss of her fiancé, Nantucket wedding planner Mia Maxwell is struggling to rediscover her passion for a job that now feels bittersweet, especially after returning from vacation to find her house burned down and being forced to take temporary refuge at the Beach Plum Cove Inn. As she juggles concern for her younger sister Izzy’s increasingly controlling relationship and agrees to plan not one but two weddings for members of the Hodges family, Mia finds herself surrounded by love she’s not sure she believes in anymore. Complicating matters is a long-term guest at the inn—introduced by Lisa—who both intrigues and frustrates her, even as Mia insists she’s nowhere near ready to open her heart again, uncertain if she ever will be.
My Thoughts:
It’s always a pleasure to return to Pamela Kelley’s Nantucket Beach Plum series, and Nantucket Weddings is another heartfelt visit to this charming coastal world. While longtime readers will enjoy seeing familiar faces again, this book can absolutely be read as a standalone—though fair warning, once you read one, you’ll likely want to come back for more. This story centres on Mia Maxwell, a successful Nantucket wedding planner whose once-dream job has become bittersweet following the death of her fiancé just weeks before their own wedding. Still grieving more than a year later, Mia’s life is further upended when a house fire forces her to temporarily move into the Beach Plum Cove Inn, placing her right in the middle of a close-knit community when she needs it most.
As Mia juggles planning multiple weddings—several tied to Lisa’s own family—she’s also carrying deep concern for her younger sister Izzy, whose relationship has taken an increasingly controlling turn. Kelley handles these heavier themes with a gentle touch, weaving together grief, family dynamics, friendship, and the slow, tentative return of hope. Through a bereavement group, new connections at the inn, and an intriguing long-term guest she insists she’s not ready to date, Mia begins to rediscover joy and the possibility of love again, at her own pace.
The Narration:
The audiobook experience makes this story even more special. Narrated by Karissa Vacker, whose warm, soothing voice perfectly suits Kelley’s tender storytelling, Nantucket Weddings is a comforting and emotionally rich listen.
Final Thoughts:
Full of heart and quiet resilience, this novel is a lovely reminder that healing doesn’t mean forgetting—and I can’t wait to continue with the rest of this series.
