Summary:
As fall arrives on Nantucket, change touches the lives of several interconnected families and friends. Widow Kay Johnson comes to the island seeking rest and companionship, forming an unexpected friendship with fellow widower Walter Sturgess, whose son Travis—a recently divorced tech CEO—is temporarily living with him along with his young daughter, Sophie. Travis’s new oceanfront home is being built by Chase Hodges, Lisa’s son, placing him back in close proximity to Victoria, his former high school girlfriend who is newly single after ending her engagement. As old feelings resurface, Victoria struggles with the idea of romance that includes instant parenthood, while Kristen, newly married to Tyler, questions whether she wants children at all. Meanwhile, Lisa faces growing competition threatening her online food business, forcing her to consider bold marketing changes, and Chase confronts a rival construction company undercutting his bids, leaving everyone navigating unexpected challenges, second chances, and shifting futures on the island.
My Thoughts:
I continue to enjoy Nantucket Beach Plum Cove series, and Nantucket Homes, the eighth instalment by Pamela Kelley, feels like returning to familiar friends in a place I’m always happy to revisit. While longtime readers will appreciate catching up with beloved characters, each book works well as a standalone, offering enough background to easily settle into island life.
Set against the cosy backdrop of fall on Nantucket, this story weaves together several romances spanning different stages of life. Kay Johnson arrives on the island as a visitor, hoping only for rest and a change of scenery after being widowed. Watching her unexpected friendship—and possible romance—with fellow widower Walter unfold was particularly lovely. Their connection feels gentle and mature, centred on companionship rather than grand gestures, yet tinged with uncertainty since Kay’s stay on the island is temporary.
Meanwhile, Walter’s son Travis has returned to Nantucket to raise his young daughter following his divorce. As a single father, he struggles with dating while protecting both his own heart and his daughter’s. When he reconnects with Victoria, his former high school girlfriend, their second-chance dynamic adds emotional depth to the story. Victoria herself is at a crossroads after a broken engagement and uncertain about motherhood, making their growing relationship feel realistic and thoughtfully explored rather than rushed or overly sentimental.
Beyond the romances, I always enjoy revisiting Lisa’s thriving food business and seeing how entrepreneurial challenges continue to shape her journey. I also loved that Victoria is on the verge of publishing her first book, adding another layer of personal growth and ambition to the narrative. Kelley balances family, career struggles, and evolving relationships in a way that feels warm, comforting, and true to the spirit of the series.
The Narration:
The Nantucket setting remains one of my favourite parts of these books—it’s immersive, charming, and perfect for an easy, relaxing escape. I listened to the audiobook edition, once again narrated by Leslie Howard, who continues to bring these characters to life with warmth and familiarity. Her narration enhances the cosy, community feel that makes this series so enjoyable.
Final Thoughts:
Returning to this series always feels like coming home. Nantucket Homes is an easy, comforting listen filled with second chances, evolving friendships, and heartfelt moments that remind us it’s never too late for change—or love—to find its way in.
