Summary:
Chloe Hollis, a chronic people-pleaser, decides to overcome her fear of rejection by collecting ten “nos” before Christmas by asking strangers for increasingly ridiculous favours. Her plan takes an unexpected turn when she meets James Dutton, a rule-following workaholic who is determined to say “yes” to every opportunity in an effort to embrace life and rediscover the Christmas spirit. As their two very different experiments become intertwined, Chloe and James find themselves caught up in a series of festive, awkward and hilarious situations that bring them closer together—and eventually, unexpectedly, into love. Full of witty banter, holiday cheer and heart, this feel-good Christmas rom-com is about facing fears, embracing growth and finding the courage to say “yes” to the people and possibilities that matter most.
My Thoughts:
What a charming and humorous holiday romance! The Christmas Yes List by Melissa Ferguson is a feel-good Christmas story filled with witty banter, festive fun and plenty of heart.
Chronic people-pleaser Chloe Hollis sets out on a self-improvement mission to overcome her fear of rejection. Her plan? To collect ten “nos” before Christmas Day by asking strangers for increasingly ridiculous favours. Little does she know that the man she meets along the way has a self-improvement project of his own. James Dutton is a rule-following workaholic who has decided to start saying “yes” to every opportunity that comes his way in an effort to embrace life—and perhaps find a little Christmas spirit along the way.
There is plenty of humour as Chloe and James embark on a series of festive activities, including some wonderfully bizarre ones that Chloe is convinced will finally get James to say no. But James is determined to stick to his challenge and says yes, no matter how embarrassing or awkward the request. I had so much fun watching these two navigate their very different challenges, and while the romance between them is predictable, I enjoyed every moment of watching them fall for one another.
I particularly loved the small-town Christmas vibe of this story. There’s something about a festive setting, quirky situations and a charming romance that makes for the perfect holiday read, and The Christmas Yes List delivers all of that. Knowing that it will soon become a streaming original movie makes the story even more fun to picture on screen, and I can’t wait to see how it transitions from page to film.
The Narration:
I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Karissa Vacker, and she gives a wonderful performance. I loved her ability to bring the enthusiasm, humour and charm this story requires, making it an especially enjoyable listen.
Final Thoughts:
The Christmas Yes List is a lighthearted, entertaining Christmas romance that had me smiling throughout. If you’re looking for a festive read filled with humour, awkward situations, personal growth and a sweet romance, this one is definitely worth adding to your holiday TBR.
