Summary:
Three years after a life-changing book club night with their daughters, lifelong friends Elin, Grace, Mariella, and Jamie reunite on the stunning shores of Lake Como, Italy, for the first time since that fateful evening. Surrounded by beautiful scenery, delicious food, and their well-loved books, the women attempt to reconnect—but beneath the warmth of their reunion lie long-held secrets about what truly happened that night. As old memories resurface, the friends must confront the past and discover whether the bonds of friendship, love, and their shared passion for literature can finally help them move forward.
My Thoughts:
I always love a story centred on friendship, so The Mother-Daughter Book Club was an easy win for me—especially since it’s set in beautiful Lake Como, a destination I’ve been lucky enough to visit myself. The vivid descriptions of the scenery, food, and cocktails had me ready to book a flight back to Italy immediately.
This follow-up to Things I Wish I Told My Mother reunites four longtime friends and their adult daughters, whose shared love of books keeps them connected despite busy lives and distance. What I loved most was how naturally their friendship felt—they slip back into their bond effortlessly, even while navigating rivalry, lingering doubts, and secrets that slowly surface. The story unfolds through multiple points of view, which worked beautifully and allowed each character’s voice and perspective to shine. The setting was so well described that I could easily picture every lakeside outing, shared meal, and adventure, along with a sweet touch of romance woven into the journey.
The Narration:
I listened to the audiobook, performed by an ensemble cast, and it was absolutely the right choice for this story. The different narrators brought depth and personality to each character, making the friendships and emotional moments feel especially real.
Final Thoughts:
Warm, escapist, and heartfelt, this is a lovely read (or listen) for anyone who enjoys stories about enduring friendships, family connections, and the healing power of time spent together.
