The Night We Met explores love, timing, and impossible choices as friendship turns into something deeper amid hardship and hope.

Length: ~10 hours.
Narrator: Teresa Palmer, Zachary Webber.
Genre: Women’s Fiction.
Series: Say You’ll Remember Me #2

Summary:
In everyone’s life, there’s a moment when one small decision changes everything, and The Night We Met beautifully explores how love, timing, and circumstance don’t always align the way we hope. Larissa’s life shifts after choosing who to ride home with following a concert—a choice that leads her into a relationship with Mike, even though an unexpected and deeply natural connection grows with his best friend, Chris. As Larissa struggles to make ends meet through endless side hustles, she finds comfort in an easy friendship with Chris, built on shared humour, books, and caring companionship, while slowly realizing that the person who understands her best may be the one she can’t have.
I’ve enjoyed every one of Abby Jimenez’s novels, but this one exceeded all my expectations. Jimenez tackles complex issues such as alcoholism and forbidden love with remarkable compassion, balancing emotional depth with her signature warmth and humour. Larissa is so focused on surviving financially and emotionally that she doesn’t initially see the challenges Mike is facing, while Chris recognizes the warning signs because he’s lived through them before. Watching Larissa and Chris grow closer—supporting one another through hospital visits, difficult moments, and quiet realizations—was both tender and heartbreaking. The emotional tension and moral complexity make this an angsty, deeply engaging read, and I appreciated that the author includes clear trigger warnings in the foreword to prepare readers for heavier themes.
The Narration:
I listened to the audiobook edition, narrated by Teresa Palmer and Zachary Webber, and their performances truly elevated the story. Their chemistry felt completely authentic, and the banter between Larissa and Chris came alive in a way that made it easy to forget I was listening to narration rather than real conversations. The emotional moments landed beautifully, enhancing an already powerful story.
Final Thoughts:
The Night We Met is emotional, thoughtful, and full of heart—a romance that reminds us that sometimes the right person arrives at exactly the wrong time, and deciding what to do with that truth can change everything.
