Summary of Synopsis:
After an amicable but painful divorce from her college sweetheart, physician Layla Bailey believes she’s moved on—until she’s invited to her former sister-in-law’s destination wedding in Paris, where memories of her own honeymoon and the presence of her ex and his new partner reopen old wounds. When an innocent conversation with the bride sparks doubts about the wedding, Layla is reluctantly teamed up with the groom’s reserved best man, Griffin, to get the couple back on track. As they work together to save the wedding, Layla and Griffin confront the heartbreaks that have shaped their lives, discovering unexpected chemistry and a second chance at love while Layla finally faces the lingering pain of her past.
My Thoughts:
Kate Clayborn has a gift for writing stories with remarkable emotional depth, and The Paris Match is no exception. Told from the dual perspectives of Layla and Griffin, this beautifully layered romance gradually reveals each character’s past at just the right moments, allowing their emotional journeys to unfold naturally. I loved the undeniable chemistry between them, and the slow-burn romance felt authentic, heartfelt, and deeply satisfying.
The Paris setting was wonderfully evocative, making me feel as though I had been transported back to the City of Light. I also appreciated the unique premise of Layla attending her ex-husband’s family wedding. While it may seem unusual at first glance, it felt entirely believable given the close relationship she had maintained with her former sister-in-law, adding another layer of emotional complexity to the story. As Layla and Griffin work together to help the bride and groom overcome their doubts, they are forced to confront their own past heartbreaks, creating a romance that is as healing as it is romantic.
The Narration:
Although the book felt a little long at times, I never found myself losing interest. I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Samantha Archuleta, and I think her performance played a big part in keeping me fully engaged. She conveyed the characters’ emotions beautifully—especially during their more vulnerable moments—and gave Layla and Griffin distinct voices that made the dual point of view feel effortless to follow.
Final Thoughts:
For readers who enjoy thoughtful, character-driven romances with emotional depth, compelling slow-burn chemistry, and a vividly drawn setting, The Paris Match is an easy recommendation. Just be aware that it includes several content considerations, including divorce, grief, and chronic pain.
