My Week:
Happy 4th of July weekend to my American friends! It’s been a very full week. On Monday, we enjoyed a little staycation at a local hotel with my sister and brother-in-law—just a quick getaway to recharge. We had originally planned a three-night trip to the Okanagan for next week, but had to cancel due to some important medical appointments in the family. During our stay, we had a lovely dinner and even fit in some fun casino time, which was a nice break from everything going on.
On Wednesday, I accompanied my parents to Dad’s chemotherapy appointment, followed by a long visit to the Emergency Room because he was experiencing pain in one of his ears. Unfortunately, his family doctor couldn’t accommodate him until next week. It took four hours for him to be seen, and unfortunately, he had to wait in one of the most uncomfortable wheelchairs imaginable—basically a metal frame on wheels, like a grocery cart, with zero padding. Dad’s such a trooper.
Thankfully, we were also able to arrange for some home support services while we were there, which are already in place. The good news is that Dad’s ear is feeling better. I had an appointment of my own on Friday, and we also reorganized part of my parents’ home to make it easier for Dad to get around with his walker.
Books I’ve Added to My Shelves This Week:
From Publishers, Netgalley, & Libro.fm:
When ever-on-the-move NICU nurse Everleigh Hartnett inherits half of her godmother’s cherished seaside inn, she sees a chance to sell it and fund the nonprofit they once dreamed of—except her new co-owner, brooding and steadfast Cade Witherspoon, refuses to part with it. Total opposites, Everleigh’s sunshine clashes with Cade’s gruff reserve, and their battle over the inn turns into unexpected attraction as they uncover each other’s deeper sides. But with a developer circling and Cade’s estranged brother showing up, they must decide whether to fight for the inn—and a future together—or walk away from it all.
From The Library:
Nina Hunnicutt’s life has taken a sudden turn—once a professor with a new apartment and a steady boyfriend, she’s now single, jobless, and back living with her parents. Things get even more complicated when Quentin Bell, her childhood neighbour and former crush, returns to town and suggests they pick up the long-abandoned treasure hunt that once ended their friendship. Lured by the promise of a reward from a legendary seltzer magnate and a chance to reset her life, Nina agrees. As the pair dive back into the search, old sparks reignite, but the secrets that tore them apart years ago still linger. To find the treasure—and a second chance together—they must finally confront their shared past.

What I’m Watching:
I’m so excited for the final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty, which premieres on Prime Video starting July 16! I’ve absolutely loved following this coming-of-age story over the past couple of summers, and I know I’ll be sad to say goodbye.
Is anyone else a fan of the series or the original books by Jenny Han? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

That’s a wrap on The Weekend Post #163. How was your week?
I wish you a wonderful week ahead!

Emergency rooms are really something out of a horror movie! They really torture you. I hope your dad does well with his various health problems.

We are trying to make things as comfortable as we can Jonetta.

I really hate emergency rooms. I’ve spent way too many hours in them with both parents. Most recently with my dad. An infection reached his blood and it was bad. He’s improving now but it was not a good experience. I hope your dad improves as well.
I didn’t have any new books this week and spent time rereading old favorites. July 4th was the 3rd anniversary of my mom’s death. Not a fun week.
I really like the covers of both of your new books. I haven’t read a contemporary for a long time. Maybe I should.
Enjoy your books.

I’m so sorry Val. This must be a very difficult time for you. I hope your Dad continues to improve.

I am so sorry your dad is having so many issues! But, I am glad you have help in place. I want to read Amy Clipston’s newest novel as well. I hope you have a great weekend!

My dad’s wife had an appointment to be at the hospital for her pacemaker to be replaced at 5 in the morning, so they got up at 3 to be there. She did not have the procedure until 8 that night. They got home around midnight. Crazy!
I wonder if I would like The Summer I Turned Pretty.

Such long days for older people – too bad that they couldn’t be seen as a priority. I am nervous visiting hospitals with Dad anyway as he is immune compromised.
Becki
Glad you got a few days away around it all 🙂 Those two book summaries sound fun. I don’t watch much TV, but The Summer I Turned Pretty sounds engaging. I think I’ve watched the movies of another of the author’s series?
thathappyreader
Thanks Becki. It was only an overnight but still wonderful.
Yvonne @ It's All About Books
That sounds so stressful; emergency rooms are the worst… I hope your dad feels a little better now. Finders Keepers sounds like a great read!
