My Week:
It was my birthday this week, and my extended family treated me to a wonderful dinner and cake last weekend. I also had a lovely phone call with a former colleague who now lives in another province—it was so nice to catch up.
This week, Mom, my sister, and I placed wreaths on the graves of my grandparents and great-grandparents for Christmas. It was especially hard to place one on Dad’s grave this year. We all miss him terribly.
We’ve had very little dry weather; it’s been raining on and off all week. It’s the kind of gloomy stretch where it hardly seems to get light outside. The forecast looks like more of the same in the coming days. I’m grateful it’s not cold enough for snow, though—if it were, we’d be buried under several feet by now.
I managed to get a bit of Christmas shopping done, but I still have a few gifts and stocking stuffers to track down. Next week I’ll start the Christmas baking and hope to try some new recipes along with a few familiar favourites.
Recent Additions To My Bookshelf:
From Publishers, Netgalley, & Libro.fm:

Greta Perks, once the beloved face of Maple Gold coffee commercials, now finds her fame fading, her marriage crumbling, and her teenage daughter drifting away. When she discovers the magical Time Hop Coffee Shop and wishes for the idyllic life she once portrayed on TV, she awakens in the flawless town of Mapleville, where sunshine, fresh coffee, and second chances seem endless. As Greta steps into this picture-perfect world and embraces the chance to rewrite her story, she begins to question whether perfection is truly worth the cost—and ultimately must decide between the dream life she wished for and the imperfect but authentic life she left behind. Thanks to Harlequin Audio and Netgalley for the ARC.

Emmy Brewer is facing her tenth Christmas without her mom, feeling stuck in a meaningless job and unsure of her direction, when her sister unexpectedly invites their former neighbour—and Emmy’s childhood crush—Charlie Russell to the family holiday. Their reunion sparks a series of annual Christmas encounters filled with awkward timing, humour, and tender moments that force Emmy to confront her choices and rediscover what she truly wants from life. As the years unfold, she must decide whether Charlie is the love she’s meant for or simply the spark she needed to find her own path. Thanks to Dreamscape Media and Libro.fm for the ALC of this audiobook.

What I’m Watching:
I’ve been watching plenty of Christmas movies both new to me and ones I’ve enjoyed in the past. I also enjoyed Christmas at Rockefeller Center earlier this week.

Happy Belated Birthday, Jodie🥳🎂🎁
I know this first holiday without your father is tough. I still remember mine. It’s so wonderful to be surrounded by family. Have a great week!

Thanks Jonetta.
Deb Nance at Readerbuzz
I’m glad you had such a wonderful birthday.
I like the sound of Time Hop Coffee Shop. It sounds a bit like Before the Coffee Gets Cold. Science fiction and fantasy novels are always, for me, a way of experiencing lives that I could not otherwise live. I always seem to come away with something, too.

I think you’ll like this one Deb.
JoAnn @ Gulfside Musing
Belated birthday wishes! Sounds like a lovely celebration.

Thanks JoAnn.

That’s nice leaving wreaths. Christmas can be a tough time (well all time is but especially Christmas).
I’ve seen the Time Hop Coffee Shop but wasn’t sure if it would be too emotional 🤔
Enjoy whichever books you get to read next!

I’m so sorry to hear about the death of your father. It is hard to go through the first year after the parent passes. It seems like everywhere is another holiday or event which reminds us of them. My best thoughts will be with you this Christmas.
My Sunday Salon this week is really my 2025 Best Books Round-Up. I’m excited to share it. I’m been completely focused on it for the past two weeks.

Happy Birthday!
The holiday after losing a loved one is a difficult one to navigate. Take care of yourself — gift-shopping and baking seem like healthy activities.

Thank you Joy.
Lisa Mandina (Lisa Loves Literature)
Happy belated birthday! I am behind on checking out review posts, need to get some time to do that. I think I have two Christmas gifts purchased, need to get going! But I’m just getting lists this weekend for people on what they want. I need to pick out what books to give my niece and nephew as they always get a book with their other gift from Auntie. Hope you have a good week!

You too Lisa!

Sounds like you had a wonderful birthday! This will be the first Christmas without my husband here beside me, so I can relate to some grief.

I’m glad you had a nice birthday, Jodie. I find as I get older, I enjoy those quiet celebrations. I’ve listened to both of those audiobooks and enjoyed them, I hope you do as well. Have a great week.

Thank you Carla.
Anne - Books of My Heart
Slow to get here with the mixup yesterday in the linky. I’m still not moving on my Christmas shopping. It’s wonderful you have family. We are pretty much alone, my daughter and I. It’s great your weather has been warm enough for rain but the snow would be prettier.
Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post

The snow is prettier but also messier Anne so I’m good with it.
