My Week:
It’s been a good week. My husband’s condition has improved since starting his new medication a week ago, and our doctor is keeping him on it for now. He still needs additional testing and a consultation with the cardiologist, but at least he’s able to live more comfortably while we wait.
I was also relieved to learn that my annual bloodwork came back completely normal. We managed to get out to the casino for the first time in over two months, and it felt great to get out and enjoy ourselves for a bit.
My son is moving this weekend, so I’ll be helping him get settled into his new home. I’m excited for him—he’s moving to an area he loves that offers everything he enjoys. We’ve had a lot of rain again this week, so I’m hoping it holds off while the move is underway.
Recent Additions To My Bookshelf:
From Publishers, Netgalley, & Libro.fm:

Eighty-one-year-old Elsie Mabel Fitzpatrick has lived on her quiet, idyllic street for sixty years, known mostly as a nosy, curmudgeonly neighbour—but beneath that unassuming exterior lies a darkly hidden past. Once a little girl and now an old lady, Elsie has spent a lifetime concealing a troubling history, one marked by a curious pattern of people around her meeting untimely ends, proving that when it comes to murder, the most unlikely suspects are often the ones no one ever looks twice at.
From The Library:

Debbie Mullen has spent years offering wisdom and compassion through her “Dear Debbie” advice column, helping women deal with neglectful and abusive husbands. But when her own life begins to unravel—she loses her job, her daughters act out, and her husband’s secrets come to light—Debbie finally reaches her breaking point. Tired of always being the voice of reason, she decides it’s time to follow her own advice and take matters into her own hands, setting out on a path of revenge that no one sees coming.

What I’m Watching:
We watched the Netflix documentary series Critical: Between Life and Death this week and thoroughly enjoyed it. The series follows London’s major trauma teams, including the air ambulance, and is exceptionally well made. It’s not suitable for those who struggle with graphic, real-life images, but as a nurse, I found it absolutely fascinating.

I have a lot of friends who read Frieda McFadden, but I generally stick to middle grade books. I am intrigued by the embroidery scissors on the cover, though. Meet the Newmans sounded very intriguing– I’ll hop over and read your review!

Frieda McFadden became very popular quickly, I hope you enjoy her writing.
thathappyreader
I absolutely did! Thanks for reading.
Lisa Mandina (Lisa Loves Literature)
Glad your husband is doing better! I hope they get it all figured out for him. Great that your tests came back good as well. I kind of feel like maybe I’m a Mabel in my neighborhood, or becoming one, lol. I’m not that old and have only lived here about 7 years, but I feel like I’m nosy about my new neighbors and cranky that they’re not as good as my last ones and that they keep doing things that irritate me. Hope you have a good week!
thathappyreader
I think I have Mabel qualities too Lisa 🤣
Cindy's Book Corner

I’m glad to hear that the Beta Blockers are helping your husband and he is doing better, and that your bloodwork came back clear. I am looking forward to Mad Mabel and I think I have Dear Debbie, but need to check. I watched the first 4 episodes of Season 4 of Bridgerton and am trying to catch up on Will Trent. I am enjoying them both. I hope you have a good week, Jodie.
