My Week:
Happy Spring! It’s been quite a week here on the west coast—we’ve been dealing with an atmospheric river bringing heavy rain from Sunday evening through Friday afternoon. The storm has caused flooding and landslides in several areas across the province, though thankfully there have been no injuries. These systems, once commonly called a “pineapple express” because they originate near Hawaii, usually arrive in the fall, so having one in the final week of winter feels especially unusual. In fact, Vancouver officially had no snow this winter for the first time in over forty years, so it’s certainly been a season of strange weather.
On a personal note, I had an appointment with my cardiologist this week and was relieved to hear that my condition remains stable. As long as my blood pressure stays under control and I remain symptom-free, my next echocardiogram won’t be needed for another three to five years, which I’m very grateful for. My hubby is also doing well on his medication and has some testing scheduled after Easter. Aside from a bit of shopping and an appointment with Mom, it’s been a quiet and uneventful week overall.

The women of the Novak family each possess a once-in-a-lifetime ability to turn back time, a power Lauren has grown up both awed and burdened by after her mother used hers to save Lauren’s father from a fatal accident, leaving herself fearful of future tragedies she can’t undo, while her grandmother Sylvia embraces life with carefree boldness. When Lauren returns to her childhood home on the shores of Malibu after her husband takes a job in New York City, she hopes to reconnect with her family and heal old tensions, but the unexpected return of Stone—her first love who once broke her heart—stirs memories and regrets, forcing her to confront the choices that shaped her life and wonder whether one of them is worth using her own single chance to change the past.

You with the Sad Eyes is a raw yet darkly humorous memoir in which Christina Applegate reflects on her journey from child performer in Laurel Canyon to beloved star, revealing how acting began as both financial necessity and emotional refuge amid a turbulent upbringing. She recounts rising to fame as Kelly Bundy on Married…with Children, navigating Hollywood’s highs and lows, finding belonging in the 1990s scene at The Viper Room, collaborating with comedy greats on Anchorman, and confronting private struggles including family trauma, self-doubt, and illness. Balancing pain with wit, she shares untold personal stories, celebrates the support of friends and chosen family, and ultimately portrays a resilient reinvention of herself after being forced to step away from parts of her career, offering an honest, intimate portrait meant to help others feel less alone.

What I’m Watching:
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you probably know I’m a big fan of When Calls the Heart, and this Sunday a new prequel series, Hope Valley: 1874, premieres—so I’m definitely planning to check it out! It takes us back to the early days of the town long before the original story begins, and it’ll be airing on W Network here in Canada and on Hallmark+ in the U.S. Is anyone else planning to watch?

Thank you Jonetta!

Glad things are going well with your health and your husbands. I can’t believe with how much snow we had this year that you all didn’t get any! We still have chances this week, we’ll see how it goes. Have a great weekend!

You too Cindy!

It’s great that you and your husband had a good report from the doctor. That’s something to be celebrated.
I’m still thinking about how strange it is that you had no snow for the first time in forty years. That’s very odd.
thathappyreader
It is odd Deb. We don’t usually get many snow days (maybe 2 or 3 a year) unlike the majority of Canada that receive many more.

I’m glad your appointment went well! We’ve had really frustrating weather here as well. It changes by 20-40 degrees DAILY and I’m over it. I recently read and reviewed Once and Again, and I didn’t like it as much as I’d hoped to. Maybe you’ll have better luck with it? Happy reading!
thathappyreader
I very much enjoyed it Lindsi. The weather seems to be strange everywhere!
Erin @ Cracker Crumb Life
I love When Calls the Heart! I have watched it at least 3-4 times. Lol. Although, I did stop watching after she broke it off with Lucas! I wasn’t ready for that, and I felt so upset over it. I have been feeling the urge to start watching again, as it is my number one comfort show. I will have to check out Hope Valley!

Season 13 is excellent Erin. And Elizabeth is very much in love again.

I’m thrilled to hear that your cardiologist had such good news for you. No snow all winter in Vancouver is weird. I know they don’t get a lot, but none?? I am interested to hear what you thought about the Christina Applegate book. I hope you have a wonderful week, Jodie.

I’m listening to Christina’s book now – is quite dark so far. I’m about half way through but will review it in the next week.

Thanks Anne.

Glad your heart is staying stable so that things are looking better for now. That Christina Applegate book sounds like one I might enjoy. We’ve had the weird weather here too. Snow on Sunday into Monday, and then Friday and Saturday were both 90 degree temps, with breaking records for the earliest 90 degrees in Kansas City history. It’s back to more spring like today though.

Thank you. That weather is crazy Lisa.

I’m happy to hear that your appointment went well! The weather has been very strange this year. We experienced snow, rain, and sun on Saturday in Calgary. It makes it harder to get dressed for the day haha. I hope you have a wonderful week, Jodie!

You too Winnie.
hena
Good to hear you both are doing well, medically speaking.
You got no snow and we got more snow than we have had in decades.

The weather patterns are strange indeed Hena.
