My Week:
We’ve had a lovely spring week here, with dry weather and plenty of sunshine. The rhododendrons and azaleas are in full bloom, along with the tulips. It’s the perfect season for walking outdoors and admiring yards filled with flowering plants and trees, and I’ve taken full advantage of it.
I did, however, run into some travel frustrations. I noticed one of our nonstop flights for our Halifax trip later this summer was no longer showing as available for purchase, even though many seats still appeared open. That immediately raised a red flag, and sure enough, a few days later we received notification that the flight had been cancelled. The airline automatically rebooked us on a connecting flight departing at 6:00 a.m.—no thanks! Thankfully, I was able to move us to a nonstop flight a day earlier, though it took more than an hour on the phone with an agent to have our prepaid meals transferred to the new booking. Ah, the joys of travel in 2026. With the ongoing fuel situation, I’m still a little concerned that either this flight or our outgoing one could be affected.
In other news, our HVAC system decided to stop working earlier this week just after we tested the central air conditioning. Fortunately, it happened during mild weather, although we did have a couple of cool mornings while waiting for repairs. We were grateful the issue could be fixed without too much expense.
On Thursday, my mom, my siblings, and I went to place flowers on Dad’s grave for his birthday. It was the first birthday we have marked since he passed in September, and it was an emotional day for all of us.
Recent Additions To My Bookshelf:
From Publishers, Netgalley, & Libro.fm: None that I have accepted.
From The Library:

Two rival meteorologists with a history of disastrous encounters are forced to work together when they’re unwillingly paired to cover the snowstorm of the century, setting the stage for an opposites-attract romance inspired by When Harry Met Sally. Methodical, routine-loving radio host Jackson Clark clashes with adventurous, field-reporting Delilah Stewart, but a bargain—his help to prove her journalistic chops in exchange for her help loosening him up—slowly turns friction into friendship and undeniable chemistry. As the storm rages and their partnership deepens, both must decide whether what’s unfolding between them is just a temporary escape in the mountains or something strong enough to weather real life beyond the forecast.

Thea and Alex share little beyond a love of food, a mutual dislike of their hometown, and the fact that they’re both divorced: she’s a non-cook entangled in a bitter custody battle over her dog, while he’s a world-class chef amicably coparenting his daughter. Two years earlier, after their exes quickly paired off, Thea and Alex impulsively invented a spite-fuelled lie about being former sweethearts and longtime friends—but what started as a ruse unexpectedly grew into a genuine, platonic friendship. Now, when their exes invite them on an awkward two-week “two-family” beach vacation, complete with daughter and dog, Thea and Alex are forced to confront whether the story they created has blurred into something more, and whether it might lead them somewhere neither ever expected: a real chance at happiness.

What I’m Watching:
I’m looking forward to watching the Netflix movie Remarkably Bright Creatures which is based on the bestselling novel by Shelby Van Pelt and premieres on May 8. The movie stars a favourite of mine, Sally Field, and was filmed here in Vancouver. Is anyone else looking forward to watching this?
