My Week:
After a stretch of hot weather here in Vancouver, we’re finally getting some much-needed rain—and I’m very grateful for it. The cooler temperatures that have arrived with it are equally welcome.
World Cup fever is in full swing across the city, and it was exciting to hear that Sports Illustrated named Vancouver the #1 host city for the tournament. Unfortunately, Canada lost to Switzerland on Wednesday, meaning they won’t be playing any more matches on home soil.
On Sunday, Canada faces South Africa in the Round of 32 in Los Angeles. I’ll be watching and cheering on these incredible athletes every step of the way.
Recent Additions To My Bookshelf:
From Publishers, Netgalley or Libro.fm:

Over the course of a transformative week in Paris, the lives of nine Americans intersect as each navigates love, loss, and second chances. Julia Glover brings her daughter Piper to the City of Light for what will be their final trip together as Julia faces a terminal illness, hoping to create lasting memories while Piper discovers an unexpected connection with a charming French waiter. Meanwhile, aging rock star Jackson Quick returns to Paris to launch a reunion tour and finds himself yearning for a life beyond fame when he meets someone who truly understands him. Songwriter Henry McGee travels to France after learning that Celeste—the woman who inspired every love song he’s written for decades—may still be alive, determined to reach her through the music that once bound them together. At the same time, Henry’s granddaughter Melody must confront the painful truth of her husband’s betrayal and decide whether forgiveness or independence will shape her future. As their stories intertwine against the romantic backdrop of Paris, each must face the past and decide what their own version of happily ever after might be. Thanks to Headline Audio and Netgalley UK for the ARC.
From The Library:

At her family’s cherished cottage in Summerland Cove, Maine, Lindy plans a milestone summer filled with celebrations—her husband David’s fiftieth birthday, her parents’ golden anniversary, and her daughter Hailey’s wedding. But when David mysteriously disappears before his own party, the family is thrown into turmoil, fearing everything from an accident to an affair as the days pass without answers. As Lindy struggles to hold her nearly grown children together, long-buried family secrets begin to surface, her parents face their own challenges, and Hailey questions whether she should go through with her wedding at all. Set against the evocative backdrop of coastal Maine, the novel explores marriage, motherhood, and the complicated histories that shape one imperfect yet deeply connected family.
What I’m Watching:
We’ve been watching the new season of Alone, which takes place in Canada’s Northwest Territories. This season is being billed as the “World Championship,” which always gives me a chuckle—half of the ten contestants are from the U.S., while the other half represent five different countries from around the world.
I could do without the emotional reactions to animals being killed and the unnecessary close-ups of skinning them (I just look away when those scenes come on), but I really appreciate seeing what the contestants endure on such an incredibly difficult journey.
Is anyone else watching this season?
