My Week:

Another week—and another month—has come and gone. It certainly hasn’t been the most relaxing of weeks.

We’ve been following the WestJet Airlines labour dispute closely. Because we needed to cancel our hotel reservation by Thursday to avoid paying a penalty, we made the difficult decision to cancel our trip after the union issued its strike notice earlier that day.

My hubby also had a follow-up appointment with his cardiologist this week. Additional testing has been ordered, but the public wait times for these tests are estimated to be one to two years. We’ve decided to pay privately to have the tests done because, if there is an issue that requires treatment, we want him to receive that care as soon as possible. Another important consideration is that our travel insurance would not cover any cardiac-related issues while these tests are pending. We’re now in our sixties, and travelling is something we want to do more often. We see paying for the testing as money well spent if it gives us peace of mind and allows us to travel with confidence and medical coverage.

The wildfires in British Columbia continue to rage, and they have become much more personal for our family. My brother-in-law’s family cabin, which has been in their family for generations, is now being threatened by the fires. We are praying for a change in the weather and hoping the fire never reaches their cabin.
