So if you’re like me and always on the lookout for the next great read, you will now find these picks all in one spot – That Happy Reader’s blog! Without further ado, let me introduce you to Celebrity Book Club Picks for August 2026. Click on the book’s cover to add it to your Goodreads shelf!
Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club (Hello Sunshine)’s pick for August 2026:
Founded in 2017, Hello Sunshine always chooses books with women at the centre of the story. Their website notes “We make our choices thoughtfully and look for ways to deepen our connection to books, authors and ourselves”. This book club chose “The Wild Beneath” by Kelly Anderson as their August 2026 pick.

Annie MacLeod has always felt out of place, raised on a sailboat in the Pacific Northwest until a devastating tsunami leaves her stranded on land. After rescuing a mysterious, silent man named Walker, whose touch reveals visions of an ancient underwater world, Annie is torn between the familiar love of her lifelong friend Evan and the irresistible pull of Walker’s secrets. When Walker disappears, Annie buries her past and builds a life on land—until six years later, his haunting call draws her back to the sea. As long-hidden truths about her identity and the ocean’s ancient mysteries emerge, Annie must choose between the life she knows and the destiny waiting beneath the waves.
Good Morning America’s Book Club’s pick:
The GMA Book Club is officially called “Cover to Cover” and was started in the Fall of 2019. Their selections highlight diversity and books are chosen from both fiction and non-fiction genres. The book club chose “Take What You Can” by Naima Coster as their August 2026 pick.
Val and Milly became inseparable after meeting on a study-abroad trip to France, where they bonded as the only Black students and found a surrogate mother in Helene, whose love and guidance shaped their lives. Now in their thirties, both married and expecting daughters, they reunite in New York with hopes of raising their children together, only to discover that years apart, shifting ambitions, class differences, strained marriages, and the lingering wounds of a long-buried betrayal threaten the sisterhood they once believed was unbreakable. Spanning Brooklyn and southern France, Take What You Can is a poignant exploration of friendship, motherhood, identity, and the enduring search for belonging.
Read With Jenna (Jenna Bush Hager)’s pick:
In March 2019, the former First Daughter announced her book club on the Today show. Each month she chooses a book that is sure to generate discussion. Jenna chose “Sunlight Finds You” by Laura Moriarty as her August 2026 pick.
Set in 1949 during the early Cold War, Sunlight Finds You follows seventeen-year-old Nora, whose idyllic new life in St. Petersburg, Florida is transformed by her first love with Leonard, a shy, brilliant young man from a wealthy transplanted New York family. But when Leonard’s father’s suspicions force them apart, Nora makes a life-altering decision that sets off years of secrets, heartbreak, and betrayal. Told from the perspective of an older, wiser Nora, the novel is a moving story of first love, resilience, forgiveness, and the courage to trust oneself while building a life that is authentic and fulfilling.
Oprah’s Book Club:
Oprah Winfrey started this book club in 1996 as a segment on her TV show. Many obscure titles have risen to bestseller status as a result of her picks. This book club does not choose books on a monthly basis but Oprah’s latest pick is “Little Wonder” by Sophie Chen Keller.
When Song, a struggling food delivery worker from northeastern China, loses her musically gifted son, River, in the chaos of a crowded Beijing train station, their lives are forever changed. Separated for years, mother and son each navigate hardship, loss, and hope while searching for a way back to one another. Little Wonder is a moving and uplifting novel about the enduring bond between parent and child, the transformative power of music, and the resilience of the human spirit.
