My Week:
It’s the long weekend here in Canada — the unofficial start of summer on the West Coast. After an unusually warm stretch, the weather has settled back into more seasonal temperatures. We’ve had a few days of spotty showers, which have been wonderful for the gardens and especially the grass, since we won’t be able to water lawns this summer due to restrictions.
I had a lovely Mother’s Day weekend last week. After a quick shop and lunch with my mom, sister, and niece, my son treated me to a beautiful dinner to end the day.
This week, I accompanied Mom to her cardiologist appointment, and it was such a relief to hear that she remains stable. We also had our replacement kitchen faucet arrive and installed on Thursday — it’s amazing how much difference proper water pressure makes!
I spent a good portion of the week wrestling with my WordPress theme, which suddenly stopped allowing me to do things I’ve managed easily for years. After several frustrating weeks, I was nearly ready to switch themes when, quite unexpectedly, everything started working again. I’m very grateful, as the thought of migrating to a new theme was not appealing.
Recent Additions To My Bookshelf:
From Publishers, Netgalley or Libro.fm:

After losing her prestigious restaurant manager job in Paris, thirty-seven-year-old Sabrina Sorensen returns to California for her sister’s engagement party, only to face family criticism about her seemingly directionless life. Unknown to them, Sabrina has secretly spent fifteen years working toward her true goal of becoming a Michelin Guide inspector, a dream now threatened by her sudden unemployment. Overwhelmed and uncertain about her future, she retreats to Burbank Airport, questioning whether her sacrifices have been worth it. There, an unexpected encounter offers her the extraordinary chance to revisit pivotal moments from her past—both romantic and professional—forcing Sabrina to confront the choices that shaped her life and decide whether to continue pursuing ambition or embrace the possibility of love and a different future.
From The Library:Â None
From Audible:

After a devastating setback in her career, burnt-out NICU nurse Daisy Stevens escapes to Cape Carolina, North Carolina, hoping for a quieter life and a fresh start. Meanwhile, high school baseball coach Mason Thaysden, still grappling with the loss of his professional dreams after a career-ending injury, discovers an abandoned baby on Daisy’s first day in town, drawing them together and deeply affecting their close-knit community. As Daisy grows attached to the child and begins confronting her own past, she forms bonds with Mason, his eccentric Aunt Tilley, and the welcoming townspeople. But when a shocking revelation threatens to unravel long-held secrets and divide Cape Carolina, Daisy, Mason, and Tilley must face difficult truths and learn how love, healing, and community can guide them toward where they truly belong.
What I’m Watching:
Now that all the series I normally watch are on summer hiatus, I’ve been binge-watching ER. I’m currently on Season 7, and saying the show is intense right now would be an understatement.
There’s also a new series on TLC called The Face Doctors, which follows surgeons performing facial reconstruction for patients affected by cancer, viral infections, or devastating injuries. It certainly won’t be for everyone, but as a nurse who has witnessed firsthand the impact of facial tumours, I find the subject deeply compelling.
