Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club (Hello Sunshine)’s pick for October 2026:
Founded in 2017, Hello Sunshine always chooses books with women at the centre of the story. Their website notes “We make our choices thoughtfully and look for ways to deepen our connection to books, authors and ourselves”. This book club chose “Sophie, Standing There” by Meg Mason as their October 2026 pick.
Sophie Pattison has a job she loves at a local book festival, a husband she adores, a lifelong best friend, Emma, and a close relationship with her brother—so it’s hard to understand how, since Christmas, she has ended up living alone, estranged from Emma, avoiding her brother, and facing the possibility of losing her job. With reading becoming her only comfort, Sophie rediscovers an author whose novels she loved in her twenties, finding solace and companionship in the words on the page. As she devours every book, Sophie begins to imagine meeting the author, wondering what it would be like if this distant literary connection became something more personal—even resembling love. With its blend of heartache and dark humour, the novel explores complicated relationships, the power of connection, and the mysterious workings of the human heart.
Good Morning America’s Book Club’s pick:
The GMA Book Club is officially called “Cover to Cover” and was started in the Fall of 2019. Their selections highlight diversity and books are chosen from both fiction and non-fiction genres. The book club chose “Bad Words” by RĂoghnach Robinson as their October 2026 pick.
Parker Navarro’s debut novel was supposed to launch his career, but a devastating review from critic Selina Chan turned it into a spectacular failure. Four years later, Parker hopes his new book will redeem him, while Selina takes the professional risk of reviewing it again. When her second harsh review sparks a viral feud, their public rivalry sends both of their careers in unexpected directions, but behind the headlines, a quieter connection begins to develop. As they challenge each other’s ideas about success, ambition, and integrity, they discover an unexpected intimacy and begin to question what it really means to create, critique, and be truly seen.
Read With Jenna (Jenna Bush Hager)’s pick:
In March 2019, the former First Daughter announced her book club on the Today show. Each month she chooses a book that is sure to generate discussion. Jenna chose “Partita” by Barbara Kingsolver as her October 2026 pick.
Livia Cable has settled into a quiet life and modest marriage in the farm country where she grew up, until a surprising call from an old lover forces her to confront a past she has long tried to leave behind. Once known as Livia Bohusz, she was a gifted young pianist whose passion for music drew her away from her family and into a consuming relationship that ultimately shattered her faith in love and changed the course of her life. Moving between past and present, Livia must decide whether to reunite with the man who hurt her while revisiting memories of childhood loss, abandonment, ambition, and dangerous attachment. Through Livia’s story, the novel explores class, the costs of pursuing one’s dreams, and the enduring connection between life and art.
Oprah’s Book Club:
Oprah Winfrey started this book club in 1996 as a segment on her TV show. Many obscure titles have risen to bestseller status as a result of her picks. This book club does not choose books on a monthly basis but Oprah’s latest pick is “Hungered” by Amanda Rizkalla.
Twelve-year-old Sofia lives with her mother and brother, Rafa, in their car as they travel the West Coast in search of a safe place to sleep each night. Her mother promises that someday they’ll have a home, Sofia will have her own room, return to school, see her friends, and enjoy the simple pleasures she longs for, but for now, Sofia witnesses both kindness and cruelty while struggling to understand her family’s unraveling. As she navigates poverty, displacement, and the uncertainties of growing up without a stable home, Sofia begins to carve out her own sense of identity and belonging. Hungered is a haunting and lyrical exploration of survival, memory, economic insecurity, and the many ways we search for home.
