My Week:
It’s been a busy and somewhat challenging week. On Monday, we took Mom back to the Emergency Room because her leg and back pain wasn’t improving and, at times, was even worse than before. The wait was six hours this time, but she did have a CT scan, which gave us some insight into what might be causing her pain. I don’t want to share too many personal details here, but we are now waiting for an MRI. In the meantime, her activities are quite limited, so we’re helping out wherever we can. It’s heartbreaking to see your 85-year-old mom in pain and having to sleep in a recliner for weeks. I’m praying that the medical team will be able to find a way to relieve her pain and help her get back to enjoying life again.
The weather this past week has been a bit of a mixed bag. We’ve had quite a bit of rain on some days, while others have brought warm, sunny weather. I love this time of year and watching the leaves change colour. Some of the trees are already beginning to lose their leaves, reminding us that autumn is well underway.
This weekend, we’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving with a big family dinner at my sister’s house. We’re hoping Mom will be able to find a comfortable spot where she can relax and enjoy spending time with all her adult grandchildren. Although things can feel a little bleak at times, we know we still have so much to be thankful for. This Thanksgiving, I’m especially grateful for family, for the time we get to spend together, and for the hope that better days are ahead.
Recent Additions To My Bookshelf:
From Netgalley, Libro.fm, publishers or authors:

🇨🇦 Devra is convinced her family is cursed, with a string of Christmas disasters plaguing them every December for more than thirty years, so she avoids the holidays and retreats into her quiet, un-festive life. But when Bradley, a cheerful Christmas enthusiast celebrating one year of sobriety and a fresh start, moves in next door and transforms his home into a dazzling holiday spectacle, Devra declares war on her overly festive neighbour. As their hilarious feud escalates into increasingly ridiculous antics, including the threat of snowman murder, Bradley becomes determined to unravel the mystery behind Devra’s prickly personality. Soon, their neighbourly rivalry sparks unexpected feelings, leaving them both to wonder whether Bradley is another victim of Devra’s supposed family curse or the person who can finally help her break it for good.
From The Library:

After losing both her job and her apartment, Julia Barlow returns to Pemberton, her family’s centuries-old estate in rural Massachusetts, intending to care for her aging grandmother and regroup. Instead, she finds herself surrounded by unsettling events, including a grandfather clock that stops at 3:41 a.m., flickering lights, and a mysterious voice calling for help outside her bedroom door. As Julia investigates Pemberton’s dark past, she uncovers long-buried family secrets and the story of a woman executed for witchcraft in 1692, leading her to believe the house may be haunted by restless spirits determined to have their voices heard.
