My Week:
Mom received her MRI results on Monday, which revealed a new fracture in her back in the same area as the one she suffered last year. Our family doctor, who has thankfully returned from maternity leave, delivered the news, and we are relieved to finally have a pain management plan in place. We were especially glad to hear that there was no tumour, and there is now some hope that once this latest fracture has healed, Mom may be able to move around a little more comfortably. We know she will always have to live with chronic back pain, but it is the acute pain on top of that which really takes its toll on her.
On Tuesday, I made a Costco run, picking up Mom’s prescriptions and doing some shopping for both of us. I wasn’t feeling quite myself for the rest of the day, so I took it easy. On Wednesday we had a lovely chat with our friends in England. We miss being able to get together and travel with them, and hope that one day we’ll have the opportunity to do so again.
On Thursday, Mom, my sister and I placed Remembrance Day wreaths on the graves of both my Grandpa and Great-Grandpa. It’s a tradition that means a lot to us. With heavy rain and strong winds forecast for Friday and throughout the weekend, we’re planning to hunker down, stay cozy and wait for the storm to pass.
Recent Additions To My Bookshelf:
From Netgalley, Libro.fm, publishers or authors:

At forty-nine, Millie feels like her life is falling apart, stuck in a job she hates and living back at home with her mum while everyone else seems to have things figured out. With her fiftieth birthday approaching, she panics and tells a seemingly harmless lie that quickly spirals out of control. As she struggles to keep up the pretence, Millie is forced to confront some uncomfortable truths and consider whether her apparent breakdown might actually be the beginning of a breakthrough. Filled with a wonderfully chaotic heroine, sharp humour, and plenty of heart, Woman Behaving Badly is a joyful, life-affirming reminder that it’s never too late to turn things around. Thanks to One More Chapter and Libro.fm for the ALC. This book is scheduled to be posted January 14/27.
From the Library:

Jordan Frost’s dream of becoming a published author comes true when her novel about an eccentric family’s Christmas vacation is picked up for two books, but she’s terrified her family will discover she wrote it under a secret pen name. Unfortunately, her former high school friend Charles Pine recognizes her immediately from the author photo and uses her secret to get closer to her when she returns home to Port Carol for the holidays. As Jordan struggles to balance writing, family chaos, and keeping her identity hidden, Charles steps in to help with a series of mishaps and show her that coming home—and perhaps finding love—might be exactly what she needs.

Before Jurassic Park made Michael Crichton a household name, he developed the concept that would become ER, inspired by his experiences as a medical student working in a busy emergency department. Initially rejected as a film, the idea was later transformed into a television series with the support of Steven Spielberg and Warner Bros. Television. Premiering on NBC in 1994, ER quickly became a cultural phenomenon thanks to its fast-paced storytelling, realistic medical drama, and breakout cast that included George Clooney, Julianna Margulies, Noah Wyle, and Anthony Edwards. Over its remarkable 15-season run, the series attracted millions of viewers, won the Emmy for Outstanding Drama, earned 124 Emmy nominations, and helped launch or elevate the careers of numerous actors. Widely regarded as a groundbreaking medical drama that paved the way for shows like Grey’s Anatomy, ER is the subject of this behind-the-scenes book by New York Times bestselling author Lynette Rice, who draws on her years covering the series and her extensive connections with its cast and creators.
Future Releases Recently Added to My TBR:

The Last Diva follows Roz Randall and Cleo Wright, two gifted teenage singers who form a group in 1963 and develop a lifelong bond that gradually becomes a fierce rivalry. As fame, ambition, envy and regret shape their lives, their friendship and feud remain intertwined for decades. When Cleo dies, the world mourns the legendary diva and seeks to uncover her story, leaving Roz, her greatest rival and closest connection, to decide how much of their complicated past she is willing to reveal. Spanning the 1960s to the present and infused with the sounds of R&B, soul, gospel and disco, this intimate yet sweeping story explores the price of fame, the complexities of friendship, the power of envy and the secrets behind a public legend. I learned about this upcoming release on Edelweiss +. It is expected to publish June 8/27.
